Hey guys got a really noisey rear diff and was wondering if anyone had a good condition one lying around in christchurch. I think mine is semi-floating and has the handbreak on the driveshaft if that helps???
Truck is a 1981 bj40
Thanks
Wanted, bj40 rear diff
Re: Wanted, bj40 rear diff
any of the 9" cruiser diffs will bolt in mate fj-bj 40-60-70-80(rear) etc

If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!
Re: Wanted, bj40 rear diff
Thats good to know. I heard that the front and rear diffs are the same??? does that mean I could get a 60 series front diff and put it in the rear of my bj40, the reason I ask is due to http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 903560.htm
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Wanted, bj40 rear diff
Also am I right in assuming putting one of these diffs back together correctly (i.e. setting backlash and preloading correctly) is a nightmare??? if I got one in parts or tried to recondition my one?? Thanks

60 Series diff will go into a 40 series housing. Pretty easy job - pull axles, remove old head and replace with new then chuck axles back in (well maybe not that easy)
$60 is cheap, buy it

Re: Wanted, bj40 rear diff
40 series diffs have a different bolt spacing on the driveshaft flange so you may have to swap your old 40 flange over or re drill the holes if you get a 60, 70, 80 series diff
40 series = square flange
60, 70, 80 = round flange

40 series = square flange
60, 70, 80 = round flange
