Low range not changing gear

Post by Julian »

Anyone any ideas?
My 96 80 Series cruiser auto doesn't believe it's in low range! To make it change in low range I have to rev its nuts loose!

Took it down to the local Toyota garage - they didn't seem to know anything!! They tried one they had on their lot and that was the same.

I was thinking that it might be the sender unit to the computer?

I tried finding any loose wires/plugs but couldn't find anything.

I'm running out of ideas.

HELP!!!

If it was the same, perhaps thats the way they are designed??

Have you tried manually shifting it??

Does it have a"Hold" switch like the Nissan Auto's do??

That does what you describe, holds it in gear untill redline then changes, but also allows you to set off in 2nd and 3rd low from a standstill which is unusual for an auto

Thanks for the thoughts.

I would hope that this wasn't the way they were designed! Reving the nuts loose isn't they way I would expect it to behave off road. I'd hate to think what it would be like if I was trying to get up a slippary hill!!

Tried doing the manual shifting but didn't seem to make any difference.

It does have a start in 2nd button. As you gain speed it still doesn't want to change.

So. At the moment it holds in first until just short of redline then rams itself into the next gear with one hell of a shove.

If there was a 'hold' button, where would I look for it?

Cheers
