Go to Elite wheels they cost $35 ish each to get mine done last time .

they are cheap. i've had rims straighten and modified through them to.
But I don't mind paying more for a top job. that's just my opinion ok.

They look tough as. Cheers!
If you look at a FJ40's front guard you'll see from the bottom/rear of the guard the distance is approx 8 inches or so from the body to the edge of the guard. From there to the start of the bottom of the rear guard is only 2 inches. So the runner area tappers from front to back.

Though those bars look like the shit they won't suit the 40.

Haydens been modeling wire and drawing up plans for Auto bend. They'll be doing the bends next week. Plans have to be there by Monday. Hayden, Rick and I have made lots of alterations to the plans so far. We all think it'll give the 40 lots more room for travel as well as look pretty mean and be STRONG as fark at the same time.

Looking good Pete.

Just a quick question.

In that last pic i see some wire for what looks like a replacement step/slider?

Is that not way to high to be of any use for protection?!?! That exhaust looks pretty vulnerable...

Cheers, Taz.

Cheers Taz. When i see it being built up like this it makes me feel like a kid again.

The side steps will be functional. The exhaust pipes on each side will be tucked up out of the way. Done easily by rotating one of the joins/welds.

One other thing that was decided today was.
The rear guard's will be cut and folded to it's limit for travel. 50mm pipe will follow the outer wheels aches and have 25mm spacer pipes between the outer bar and a 40mm plate attached it to the body at 200mm spacings. The roll bar is attached to the body. So the rear pipe bent flares/bars and side steps should be strong enough bolted to it.

Sweet. Thought there must of been a catch.

Looking forward to seeing them done. You just going to paint them the same green or is your camo paint job on the cards soon?

The whole bar work and custom guards seem a little involved from here for me. But how I see it in the end is simple, phat looking and fully functional.

it's great having a hand in producing something like this.

Hey, I've thought. In the end. If it doesn't look cool (like some finished 40's you see) getting HRN and 4WD Accessories into the equation and it will be functional at the very least.

Good question.

I'm still real keen on a camo job, that's why I went with the green. It's just, getting the right style and outfit to do it. That's the slow bit.
On the other hand. I have some green paint from the last paint job left over. It would be easy to go with the same colour. i think I'll do that for a start.
All the bar work will be painted black. No surprises there. :D

Pete, if you have some GREEN left over could you get rid of the YELLOW. Take plenty of photos before the Coast trip, those West Coast Supermarket car parks can be very hard on vehicles.

LOOKING GOOD,

Cheers Fitzy! It'll be interesting to see how it looks after HRN have finished with it.

yeah i was told about those Westcoast supermarket car parks. That's why I thought I'd beef up the 40 a little to cope with it.
I'll be taking plenty of pix before that trip, coz what's the bet I'll bend/break something in one of those mean as car parks.

I thought of painting the inside green with the extra paint. But it would be way easier to just spray bomb it BLACK. YEAH!!

Talk with Mark Hensley, Ricks old employee. He has some good contacts in the paint and panel business. He can access to a bake house. Txt me on 021925114 and I will forward his number to you.

Was at HRN this morning seeing how things are coming along.

Things are looking strong as!
Image

All of Hayden's welds are like art work to me. 8)
Image

There's still a third support beam to go from middle of the guard down to the chassis.
Everything has been made so it all bolts on n off.
Image

Fingers crossed that the job is done in time for the Reefton trip there Al. Pitty Nathan farked his truck at Ricks last Saturday. As we were going to use that if my truck wasn't ready. Now my truck HAS to be ready by the 15th.
Only 8 days to go.

Nathan busted the front diff. I thought that would be an easy fix. But he tells me that he's selling the whole truck. Something like that. But he was certain that we couldn't use it on the 15th damn it.

HRN Engineering is on Buchan Rd in town.

The owner Hayden has worked a number of years with a V8 Supercar team in Australia. He's been an expert in fabricating V8 Supercar parts from handmade headers to roll bar kits.
He ain't cheap ok. But knowing how much attention he takes to detail, to me it's worth it.

One side almost complete.

Image

The guards middle beam in place. Just the front one to do then make up the tread plate for the outside of the guard.

Image

x4 25mm pipes supporting the sidewalk. No tread plate going there. Just on the guards. The rear bar still needs x4/5 25mm pipes set up in the same way as the sidewalk.

Image

Plenty of protection from the supermarket trollies i mean banks here.

Image

The rear wheel arches will be opened up to the max.

Image

Hayden recons he'll have it all done by Tuesday night. :D
So what do you recon guys?
My mate in Nelson looked at it n said, "what are ya planning to do with it mate? Drive a truck over it or something? Bit overkill ain't it?".
I always get a straight up n down answer from him.

No overkill there Pete. More like minimum requirement if you want to keep your sheet metal looking reasonable.
You will be more than stoked you had it done the 1st time you need to lean the truck into a tree, bank or rock

Cheers rokhound.
It's amazing when i think. All I wanted to do in the first place was increase the track or offset the rims. It's gone from that, to this.

But after rolling it once, gently, and seeing how much damage that did?! I thought, I'll go as strong as pos. So if I do it again the damage WON'T be as much.
