FJ40 front disc brakes

Post by Jezza »

Just helping a mate with his fj40. What parts are needed to do a disc brake conversion on a 40. I know that 60 series hubs, discs and calipers are used but what else is needed?

Cheers

you can use hilux parts to do it as well. you need the cv's as well and fit them to the 40's axles.

you need everything from the swivel hub out

And if you can get the brake booster and master cylinder unit from a 60 series - that's a good thing too. Not that it won't work with the 40 series stuff - just better braking with the 60 gear. Apparently there's a residual pressure valve in the drum brake system that needs to be removed from the front brake circuit to stop the disc brakes from dragging. I'm not sure how important it is, as I swapped in the whole 60 series gear.
