Waiting for the control arms....... well, waiting to get some coin to order them. THEN will redo the skid plate, alter the exhaust and .... well... will find something else to spend some of the hard earnt on.

Interesting couple of weeks:
Rear Track bar has bend in it, so waiting for enough budget from the minister of war and finance to get an adjustable in from Aus. No point in putting the other back in, will just wait.
Managed to score a winch plate on TM for bugger all money. Appeared to be home made but upon arrival it looks more like a manufactured one, can't find and codes or company logos on it though. Now have to buy a winch then that can be fitted.

Hopefully have everything back together in the next month and go and do some 4 wheeling!!

Cleaned out the rear drums and linings, and adjusted the hand brake. Just like a bought one, but I need to get round to doing the Falcon rear disc conversion... On that, does anyone know if the ZJ proportioning valve is needed for the conversion? Cheers.

Some say yes, others say no. Reason being the TJ with rear drum brakes or rear disc brakes from the factory (available in US) actually use the same proportioning valve. This suggests it would make no difference. There are a few kits available from US that come with everything to convert (around USD 400), simply bolt on.

Or you could use ZJ parts to do the same thing:

Hi team,
Long day with the Northern Zone Assoc meeting at Huntly, then straight back to xj's and pop in the 1.25" body lift from Rych. BL went in fine. All seemed to be ok, except have noticed a small hole in the radiator, will sort that out tomorrow. Other than that drives ok, changes in and out of 4H and 4L. So all fine. Now on to the 33's.

I have been struggling to find any cheap 15x8 steel rims in NZ with N20 offset. If anyone has a set they want to part with let me know. Alternatively I have been toying with the idea of importing a set from Aus. If anyone else is also looking for a set of cheap rims send me a PM then I will start a thread etc.

Painted the coil spacers (bartered from XJ) black. Next they will go in to gain some of the lift back. I didn't like the red and silver look of the spacers, so a bit of paint to turn them black.

I just hope this rain stops over weekends (don't mind it during the weekdays). Its difficult to do things without a covered garage in the rain.

Off for the next two weeks..... so..... looking at revisiting sorting out the issues with the hi-clearance skid, will whip out the rear springs and take them in to be re-tensioned and one needs re-shaping (nothing to do with my driving!) Will continue with making/thinking about making steering box guard, and after some inspiration from RJ, will look into refining the idea he came up with last night about an overhead console.

Thats this week..

hopefully next week i'll get up to Whangarei for a couple of days and go for a play at Bayleys or Pouto.

Hi Mike,

Have indeed! Went to Pureora and been up Thomos a couple of times. Still ironing out a few issues but we are getting there. Hows it going down there? Seen any of the local 4WD spots yet?

just a ? how come tou havnt proteceted the pitmen arm ?
that is the main thing to protect as they have the levarge on the box and can snap clean of the main shaft at the bottom of the housing
I have never actuly seen the box damaged just thst main shaft after the pit men arm has got snaged and ripped it of ??

'cause i couldnt be arsed. Too much in the hard basket.....

Nah... I only built it for something to do, as yet I havent hit either the pitman or the steering box. Theory is that by the time anything has hit and passed the box, that the pitman will be clear....... but theory is only good until its been put through the practical test!

Ive never seen a pitman arm protected with a box either.... so a question back to ya Shayne.... how would you do it? 'Cause i cant think of a practical way of keeping the arm functional, and attaching a guard.

it would be fairly ugly and quiet big but i would just drill holes in it to lose the extra weight gained not to much rocket science

and if youre going to go over the pitman, where would it be attached? surely not just from the bumper and the steering box side bolts.

Drilling holes out makes a lot of sense.

No Shayne, im saying that DRILLING HOLES MAKES A LOT OF SENSE. read what i bloody well wrote, not what you THINK i may have intended to mean.

Im interested in your idea, and hence am asking questions on how you would do it. But you seem more intent on being a smart arse.

Brake proportioning valve had been seeping brake oil, so got one from the US. It was installed this morning by a shop (I did not want to mess with the entire brake system). Repainted the inner fender area where some brake oil had leaked on to and damaged the paint.

Then ripped off tints from both front windows as one was slightly coming off. Cleaned the windows and put new film. I replaced both side to match the colour and shade, could easily have just replaced the driver side which was ripped.

Re-painted the hardtop hinges as factory paint was peeling off in flakes. A bit of sanding and painting, easy.

Have you found the original paint flaking off the wing mirror mounts, with oxidising alloy underneath?

Wing mirror mounts are okay. I think they changed the design or material at some stage around 2000 and then a bit later. Newer wing mirrors are smaller and rounders! Mine are the same as yours, but paint seems to be holding for now.
