nissan patrol shuddering terribly

Post by mark_corbett »

I have a stock standard ’89 LWB Patrol. Petrol> About three years ago it developed a violent shuddering in the steering at about 80-90km’s per hr which was triggered by corrugations on the road surface. It is so violent that you can barely hold the vehicle on the road. New front tyres, alignment and balancing used to rectify the problem for about six months each time. About six months ago this tempory solution failed to work and the shuddering has only become more frequent and severe. Has anyone encountered this problem and know of a solution? Your comments would be much appreciated!

This happens frequently with mine, its always the panhard rod that has loosened.

I had a landcuriser that did it with 35 and spring over. cheaked tire ballance, wheel aligment ,wheelbearngs, and kingpins ,tie rods and put new steering shock on didnt stop it..I cheaked the preload on the kingpins and they need more that stoped them shacking!!!!

Yip thats the most common cause of it, Ive had 3 Patrol/Safari's and they have all had a shimmy and new Panhard rod bushes fixed it.!

Had the same! fitted OME eccentric bushes to radius arms and also space/packed the end nut assembly on the end off the arms to role the diff further, sorted my issues immediately keeping in mind this was with a 2" lift fitted.

Cheers
