so went home early me mat and kev carried on till i found a soft bit and got stuck water waist high in the cab
engine started to sound like shit so asked for a tow
kev to the rescue who then got stuck too
so matt4u was left to do the recovery
he managed to drag kev out then back to mine it was half way up the dash kev started to tow blooody steering lock was on so went for the key only to find id dropped it off the key ring
kev was struggling to tow me out so we got 2 trucks on it and she came clear but cost me an engine need to pull it to bits or do a swap

Hell no; that pic doesn't do justice
. Small sputter & (?) water forced its way up Rics exhaust - sounds real ugly
. Within seconds, no other option than to cut engine .. force of water literally inching him nose-dive foward into a 7'+ deep hole.
Tried to manouvere my truck behind to hook on a rope post haste and combination of pea-gravel bed/force of current swept my truck's ass into the hole ... so deep I was floating ... then looking in the rear view mirror @ 3" water in the tailgate glass
& rising fast.
At this time I discovered a small technicality - no clutch
. Massive do-or-die engine revs gave me some bite ... then a little more bite ... enough to inch close enough to the bank that Matt was able to cast a mooring line. One rescued and Ric now up to his waist in freezing water :shaking: , edging ever closer.
Weight and force of water too great for one truck to budge Ric - double teamed & inched foward a snatch @ a time. Near roll-over angle on riverbank ... finally Rics up on dry land.
Sadly: "she's dead Jim"

Yikes...hell yeah that must have been pretty deep considering when your tailgate is open I can almost drive under it
Sounds like you guys had a bit of fun apart from rik loosing his engine. supra is it or 1kz now ?

cheers rik
You just get yourself a new toy and it gets taken off you... so much for my 2JZ powered Bighorn...
And water in the engine... I had my face under the hood when we first turned the motor over after getting the injectors out... must have been half a cup of water in #2 which I got mostly in the face
Yeah, engine seems smokey and rattly, but doesn't seem to smoke or rattle too much more than before (cos its always seemed to smoke and rattle like buggery anyway

dont look that bad on here![]()
Doesn't look that bad until you work out the height of your wheel arch from the ground, must be close to 800mm! and you're still pointing downhill, so probably more than that...
Starting to be thankful that I wasn't able to come out

Good to hear there Rik, what you gunna do for your next stunt.
Got all the knuckle, hub and driveshaft all back together today. Ended up having to replace the whole manual hub. Guys down at fully equipped threw in a set of locking cogs for the hubs (made by warn) that break at a lower strain. The stock premuim ones break at 80,000" and these go at 55,000". All the rock crawler guys use them. Supposedly you only shear the teeth of these instead of breaking cv's, half axles or hubs. Will test them out this weekend.

That's a stroke of luck Ric - they build Toyota's tough. Speaking of luck, have you managed to separate the snatch ropes. If no joy, suggest you amputate @ loop & get Cookes to re-bind. Did it with one of mine a few years back - only cost $20.00; far cheaper than a new strop.
My seats are still drying by the fire.
Good to hear you're mobile again Al.

When we have had strops stuck, we found absorbing the knot in a bucket of water, so that it expands, and then drying it out and trying to undo the knot has helped. It just takes time, and some sort of good metal bar to slowly squeeze into the knot without damaging the strop.

No one beleived me when I talked about them.... you are exactly right...
I believed you Bill
What worries me is you are constantly breaking the 80,000ft/lb CVs, is it wise to put something with only about 60% of that breaking strain into your drivetrain???
Just hurry up and get grinding on that IFS... face it - it will NEVER be strong enough for your driving / flying / swimming style

the original cv was broken because it was worn, it was popping out. The way this broken one looks through the shaft doesn't seem right. I wasn't really even caning it, well not like normal anyway. Going to get it looked at, might try airnz.
