10/06/06 CCVC 35th Anniversary Trip....

For those interested there is a upcoming rerun of the 1st ever trip the CCVC did for as part of its 35th anniversary, its a trip round wainui coast, trip is a family shiny so all past members and visitors welcome, there will be (i think) someone from http://www.nz4wd.co.nz on the trip as well. Quite an interesting trip, lots of hills and an interesting rock garden (lahar?) to go thru...... If you are keen please contact the trip leader Ron Wadham 04 563 7907 / 025 210 6455

We have a Anniversary dinner that night, if you are a past member keen to attend PM me and I'll put you in contact with the ticket guy...

doesn't matter if you are a member, I haven't been with the CCVC long and reckon its a great club for newbies.....all you need to do is ring up Ron ..... Steve is doing a driver training the next day as well which includes a trip, let me know how you get on....

I'm going on both these trips. training is $75 bucks and you need a book etc to study first. The $75 includes the club membership.

I am going to come along on his trip as my 4wd experience has been limted to red rocks and a bit around terewhiti and am keen to learn a bit more .
I know this is a family shiny type drive ( which suits as I am bringing the family along ) any one able to shed some light on the route type of terrain etc do I have to let the tyres down etc?

The route is mostly clay farm tracks. There are a couple of rocky sections, some beach sand, all fairly easy stuff. Unless it absolutely pours down with rain the day before there is no reason to have mud tyres although the trip sheet says mud tyres are preferable. There are a couple of places where over-growth on the side of the track will touch the car so expect some light bush marks. Nothing serious but I did overhear some comments last time I did this trip from someone who was a little peeved at getting some light scrathes (which would easily polish out) on their new 4x4. The expection is that being a "family shiny" no damage of any kind is likely or to be expected. This of course depends an aweful lot on the nut behind the wheel as well.
It is an excellent introduction to the family type trips CCVC runs.

More wont be a prob ( proberly wouldnt notice them ).

Any idea how long a trip?

Meet at Rimutaka Forest Park around 9.30am
Trip departs around 10am I think, (have to check)
Expected return around 4.30pm (need to be back in time as there is the 35th anniversary dinner to attend)
Fuel required for around 70km which in my truck means I need to have nearly a full tank

make sure you guys come up and say hello as I wont know anyone there unless they were at the aotea block on saturday. Just look for the red surf with ORE stickers on it. Always good to meet more members off the site.

not to many up here with ORE stickers on their back window if I remember correctly. If it was a blue wagon then it was bubbas not mine.

Some Pics (have got some other ones from a later trip somewhere....

PS It gets very windy and cold up there sometimes, and theres a nice bit prado sucking bog down the coast, the odd horrible looking ruts in the tracks but nothing too bad, a nice fun scenic trip. lots of big hills .... really bad if you have a v8 disco like cloggy.

If you have an altimeter in your truck it will get up to 900m/1000m

And theres also lots of long grassy bits (truck swallowing grass) so you can pretend you are in a landrover on safari in africa or somewhere....

Had a bit of an eventful trip today with one vehicle on its side. Expected on Club 4x4 or Hard Yakka trips, but on a Family Shiny???

Anyway, no real damage done, just a broken rear window. Didn't take too long to get it back on its wheels.

And one of Ashley Lucas getting down and dirty, doing the wrenching on the Land Cruiser after the rear axle moved on its springs, making the whole thing crab sideways down the tracks.

Other than that it was all plain sailing, not as many vehicles there as expected, perhaps 18 - 20 all up.

oh the perks of having a reg and wof vehicle.. not an a-framed dedicated off roader.. :roll:
