 mine destroyed the timing belt as well. but i went to turners damaged and got 2 kzn130 surf's(one auto 150,000kms $2500 and one manual 300,000kms $1500) and swapped the 1kz-te (3.0l turbo) engine and box over and wrecked the remaing bits off and covered my costs and have a spare engine  . highly recommend this option if have the time as 1kz goes heaps better than the 3L.

if you havnt allready, rotate the motor till tdc and mark where everything is,
its all basic- theres factory marks ect
replace the water pump and idlers when your in there
it would be easyer to turbo it using ln130 2lte parts.
i recon'd and turbo'd my 3L, ive got a workshop manual if you need any torque settings ect
good luck

if it looks dodgy replace it, you need it to be reliable not break down on the back country
