Largest Tyre Size for Hilux
Largest Tyre Size for Hilux
Whats the largest size you can go on a standard height hilux (96 IFS)
I don't want to risk breaking anything nor rubbing etc.
Should I stick with 31*10.5*R15?
They would be on the standard rims.
Cheers

I dont think that is the answer he wants. Jafa's truck is far from Std.
The real answer is probably 32s

Re: Largest Tyre Size for Hilux
Might be better to play it safe with the 31's?
Re: Largest Tyre Size for Hilux
37s bro, just trim your guards out, its all good, keep that COG down, plus assuming you have a 2.4 diesel, you will never break anything!!

Re: Largest Tyre Size for Hilux
You can go to 32's and if you are happy for a little rubbing you can "massage" a couple of seam's to fit 33's but they will rub at full flex even with the front torsion bars wound up a bit.
If you are only in rivers fishing then 31's will do, if in ruts following other 4wd's then I would try some 33's on for size (find someone with 33's and throw them on to see what will rub).
33's will also gear up the 4wd (make it more gutless) and will put the speedo out (low) so you may not want to take the leap after trying it out.

She's the 2.8lt.
Well I spose I could get the tyer shop to chuck on a 32 too see if she rubs and if not then go for em.
I don't mind gutless, I don't own a whizz bang twin turbow AWD toy. As long as she can do 100KPH on the highway I'm a happy chappy!
Re: Largest Tyre Size for Hilux
keep the width of the tyre down and you will have less interferance issues. When you say a '96 surf, do you mean a KZN185?
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

It might have 16's on it so you could try a 265/75/16 they are some times a little higher than a 32/11.5/15 but not as wide so often dont catch on any body work or guards and tuck up nicely. I had that size BFG muddie on a standard height 96 185 surf and the tyre was actually a fraction taller than my 33/12.5/15 Wrangler MTR but narrow so it fitted nicely.!

The Guy asked a serious question and if you can't give him a serious answer you are better not to say anything rather than make an idiot of yourself.

I was in two minds if the guy was serious, so I just had a look at that guys truck and it is quite a machine!
I've been looking at the Firestone Destination MT's. Have heard the new ones - not the old atx - are pretty good.

Re: Largest Tyre Size for Hilux
a friend of mine is running 31's on a std KZN130 hilux surf and he tells me they just touch and no more, I would therefore suggest 31's are as big as possiable without modifications, any bigger and they will rub like mad especially off road

Re: Largest Tyre Size for Hilux
i had 32 wranglers on my first kzn130, standard height and no rub lock to lock, touched the rear seam of the inner gaurd a couple of times off road but a hammer fixed that. I never measured them and suspect that they measured about a true 31 so im sure tim is correct.
if it makes you feel any better i just bought 36's for my hilux, there is no way they'll fit until i move the axle but i consider it a little like a girl buying pants a size to small to give her motivation..

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!
