look out for rust in all the GQ's.

try find a real cheap rust free 4.2l one for like 5k and then spend the remaining 7k on suspension/tires/wheels/turbo and you'll have a sweet truck. imo.

Doubt you'd find a 7 seater for 5k, but they are getting cheaper as people get desperate for money/more of them on the market.

Double check the km's on http://www.carjam.co.nz on whatever vehicle your looking at as some people like to dodge road tax which means they won't have changed the oil every 5000km. That said though I have heard of a td42 on 550,000km's without any work done to it apart from the cooling system and he doesn't change his oil very often  They are pretty bulletproof motors.

Check the sills for rust.

If you want to turbo one later on, get a pre 93 as they changed some of the internals to lighten it up after that.

I have never driven a turbo one, I'm sure they are great, but to be honest I don't reckon you need one unless you plan to toss some mammoth tyres on or tow your house up a lot of hills.

What ever you look at CHECK THE CHASSIS FOR RUST tap along the chassis rails with a light hammer, look at front seat mounting points for cracks in floor pan, check windows wind up and down easily ( doors prone to holding gravel dust and mud)GQ s only rust if not cleaned properly after play.

cheers for all the advice guys its been a huge help.
does look like a good bye coxsy but after a long wheel base, but ta anyway. after a low roof non turbo at this stage, can always bolt one on later if i need it, winch would be a bonus. not to worried about diff lock,
