11th and 12th July

Post by xj »

Me and the young fella went for a couple of rounds of mini golf, and while there we spotted the golf course owner, in his little 2wd truck, stuck in the middle of a fairway, and his worker was out there in his 2wd van trying to recover him. Dutifully I offered some help and tippy-toed our way out to them trying so very hard to not damage his fairway. (TUI AD!!)
I had the intention of sitting about 30mtrs away and winching him so i would limit the amount of course i was going to damage, but the winch decided to pack a sad (actually, i had unplugged the bloody thing this morning while playing with a headlight and hadnt plugged it back in again, didnt click until after :? :? ) so we had to pull out the snatch strap.......
The fairway didnt fare so well as it happened, (spectators were cheering at the rooster tails), but they were happy to get out, lots of bowing and handshaking and more bowing ensued. (they're Japanese) My lad got a fist full of chupachups, and some free rounds of golf next time we go there. All good (I lost by 3 shots over 38 holes!!)

On the downside (and Jerry is just going to have me on a platter for this) neither van nor truck had towhooks, so i had to loop the strop under the towbar mounting bar and back over the tongue. Rationale was that if anything were to bend or break it would be the tongue and it would be pulling back toward the front of the vehicle, and hence was of no imminent threat to anyone......
waiting for the telling off..... waiting for the telling off..... :( :(

....didn't you have your trail recovery hook handy
(Disclaimer...do not use these ever !!!!)

..No telling off required as you were sensible enough not to tow them off a towball or a factory hook....

The irony of the situation did pass through my mind, I had a little giggle.

Changed my auto surf body into a manual, hooked up handbrake and all the little bits to hook back up. Next weekend gonna swap the rear axle out of the 130 chassis chop off all the coil stuff and hopefully have an easy job lining up with the 60 leafs and driveline  .
Hopefully sell a few things this week and put a new engine in too.

Bought my gold surf off the same guy in levin, seems like a pretty cool dude, have rang him up a few times since i bought it and he's always helped me out with what i needed to know. That surf looked pretty sweet but he didn't want to sell it at the time. The auto seemed a bit complicated though

Had to help my son rebuild the brake on the Warne hi-mount today, after much cursing, threats, thrown tools - all at each other, I think we have fixed it.

Oh and before you ask, no you can't borrow any more parts off mine and yes I will notice if you just swap them over LOL.

On the other hand, mind if I come borrow some spares off you?
