Whirinaki Forest

Post by Jafa »

Does anyone know if you can drive from Waimihia, on SH 5 (Napier-Taupo), north to Murapara?
On google earth there's a road that goes all the way there, but on Google maps it looks to be a forestry road. Be good to know if I could go that way, save me heaps of time getting to Minginui

I wouldnt do it, It is a great road though. but if you get caught they give you a 2 year ban from any foresty block they manage. and they will take you to court if they catch you again. i know from experience. we used to use the road to go diving in Whakatane from Napier.

Well if you had millions of dollars worth of forest and some tool came through and accidentally burn it all down I think you would be a little pissed.

Contact the forest access people in Kawerau & ask for a permit to stay at the camp ground at TeAwa....then you'd be OK!!!
