It's in Christchurch unfortunately but I got plenty of bits for my Niva, including a timing chain tensioner, from Murray Costello cars in Addington. 0-3-338 9161
They used to be a Lada dealer and still have a good stock of Lada parts. There is a place in Napier too I think called Gee Motors.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

It's a bit of a pain to get to actually, you need to take out the front panel and the radiator to get the cover off to get it in. I have a workshop manual still so if you like I can scan the relevant pages and email them to you. Let me know.

Are you sure the tensioner needs replaced? My chain was smacking around badly when I got the Niva but just needed the tensioner adjusted and it was sweet.
Otherwise I'll scan those pages for you tomorrow and email them off.

well i got the car for free because the previous owner was told the con rod was snapped but it turns over etc and valves move so i think it is out of timing and i found part of the adjuster it was snapped in half and the chain is really loose but i cant adjust it. I found this http://www.wnc.asn.au/index.php?option= ... &Itemid=42 and im missing part 38 (well i found half of it) so that is what i think i need.

k no worries, sounds like you do need the tensioner. I'll scan that stuff and send it off, from memory the pictures are much better than that one you found.

Yeah mine had been slowly wearing a hole in the chain cover, still went fine though. Nothing seems to stop those Niva's driving home no matter how much you thrash them. Still got a soft spot for Nivas, big grins, cheap to buy and surprisingly capable.

Yes a very common problem with any Lada. An aussie engineer made a modified version with a sprocket rather than the wear pad to alleviate this problem. Not sure if they are still available but if they are, I am sure there will be a link still somewhere on that WNC website.
I am also a ex-Niva owner and fully agree with Mongoose, Niva's rock :salut:
I have a very large softspot for them still.

Excellent stuff, aye we've been snowed in with no power or phone for a couple of days but back up and running now so I'll be in work tomorrow. I'll do the pages from the workshop manual and send em off soon.
Glad they had the part.
Cheers.

Hey Denz,
Email sent finally with those pages. Hope it's ok.
I could probably have the whole manual converted to pdf if you want but there would be a charge I think.
Cheers,

Asked round at work and I can get the whole manual scanned to pdf for $5 so I'm happy to do that for any closet Lada fans on ORE if people are keen.
If there was some way to add it into an album so it could be downloaded that'd be cool too but not sure if that's possible......

Anybody keen?
