I have a little bit better than average flex but i can still easily do a 70kph corner at over 100 and that is important to me.

And with average flex can still keep up with most.

If you do springs over ,you will tip over from what I have seen.

cheers richard

Not from what this guy who hosts the Tuff Truck series tells me Richard. And this guy is well connected.

At the moment I'm doing well over the suggested speed for corners SAFELY in my cruiser NOW.

Simons 40 series?

Looks like hes running revolver shackles too :?

I might do that PR. Good one.

Yep. That's Simons 40.
We asked him, "is that the best flex it's got?" he said, "nah, far from it".

You email him and ask him how it drives and rides the rough stuff and how it handles the open road. You'll be surprised at the figures and stats this thing does, TRULY!!!

The Key words here are " AT THE MOMENT" .

It won't be like that with springs over as the centre of gravity rises

The VX diffs with coils would be your best option in my opinion for what is worth and as Rokhound says you will have more clearance without leaf springs hanging down which make most cruisers useless

Cheers Richard

And, if I may add, you could put 80 series anti roll bars on to make road behaviour very good as I believe you have lockers. (well actually I think the lockers are different from 40 series to 80 series!!!)

One issue with going to 80 series diffs is they are a heap wider - you would have to probabily get a smaller offset rim to have the tyres stay within those (assumed) expensive guards you have just had made...

You dont need 80 series diffs, if I had the money and your current set up truck i'd be getting coil-overs and a custom (read longer and just look at nibbys build thread) arm set up made. Think big Pete:

I only quoted so I could see that picture in the thread again. :D

the expensive guards can always have some rubber flares added to em to make it legal, no problems there.

The more i think of it the more i want to stay with what I have.

I mean off road it would be nice to get rid of everything on the bottom side of the axles. As they act like a bulldozers blade.
But on road the way it is? There's only 15 minutes between the best time to Nelson in the Holden (3hrs 30minutes) and the Cruiser (3hrs 45mins) in the 400km trip. And that's what i like. To me, I have the best of both worlds on n off road. I thought after talking with this guy Simon today I might do better......

From what I heard from Simon he has his set up mainly for mud drags, he has sway bars to give it road manners (disconnected for offroading), anything you do to yours will give it worse road manners than it has now thats a given :!:
Take my old truck for a spin it has great flex but going around corners at 100kph it's a handful, the truck I built up now with coils on all 4 corners is far superior on the road that the old one and still has above average flex, with the lockers still does the biz offroad as you saw last weekend.
If you're going to spend money on a good suspension setup for mainly road use, coil it otherwise yo will be disappointed driving it hard on road

That's what he did before he started hosting the Tuff Truck series Tim, Mud Drags. He hasn't compete for years.
He told me his truck is an everyday run around, like mine. (this will upset some people) He also told us it out performs and handles better than any coil setup. Honestly. Ask Nathan who works with Rick at his shop. He was right beside me. Nathan thought he was talking crap. Each to their own. This Simon fella is in the know.. So why would he talk shit? He's the face of 4X4 action in Aussy. :?

Hey, this is just what he told me. So please don't flame the messenger. :D

Not trying to poopoo the awesomness that the 40 in the picure is but those diffs are rockwells, not 80 series'.

Anyone know what the relevant differences are in width?

I was pointing out the coil-over set up and the flex you can get using them...

Update.

Me 40 has been sick since it went on the Westcoast trip. I was lucky to make it home really. Because at the end of the first day we lost power to the fuel pump. Well, it was intermitant We had to get a tow back to base at the time. Then we thought we'd solved the problem before I went home with the shits. Then on the way home it died 15mins away from springs junction with no cell coverage or PRS. After 2hrs I got it going again. From there it just died after i got home.

At this stage we think it's all down to a failed crank angle sensor.
I can understand why some folk strip the injection bullshit off and go carby.

All the bar work has been powder coated gloss black. The tread plate has been anodized black. It's all ready to go back on.....on a dead 40.

it's a bit of a put off to be honest.
The last time I had electrical issues with it was soon after the re power. It was unreliable as! Every time I turned a corner hard the engine would cut out. Only cause the ECU and loom fuses weren't anchored down in the glove box.  oh and the wiring loom melting next to the headers was a bit of an eye opener to.

So yeah. I'm a bit pissed off with the whole thing right now.
it's been at the Auto sparky for the past 3 days.
I'm hoping tomorrow it'll get sorted.

The only thing i don't like about carbies, they always wear out/smelly messy things, you can't fuel map a power curve. They waste to much fuel for a everyday run around (like my 40 WAS) and so many other little annoying things.

This electrical issue might be a good thing. Once the problem is found I might be able to make adjustments so it won't happen again. Carry an extra sensor if one fails/give the sensor more protection if it's damaged.

I can understand why fellas would want to simplify a 4X4 power plant to get the most reliability.
But I'm not going back to a carby, those days are soooo long gone.
