Clearance to fit 35's?

Post by Hombrey »

Guys I've decided to fit 35 silverstones to my SWB safari after reading lots of threads. I'll keep my 33 wranglers for different terrain and travelling. The 35's are 35x11.5x15's (actual is 34.5). My safari has a 2inch body lift and a sagged 4 inch suspension lift :D . Anyway will I need to cut the guards back a little bit. Measuring it looks to me like about 1 inch needs to come off the front to provide clearance turning? That sound right? How have you guys found fitting them? They will be on 15x8's.

nah i reckon you will be good. i run 2 inch suspension and 2 inch body lift and it clears all the guards and everything, no rubbing with my 35 silverstone. so even if your 4 inch suspension lift has sagged a solid 2 inches they should still clear.

Thanks Mate. Bud when the lift is done should the front diff be spaced forward at all. I'm not sure mine is and even with 33's the tyres only appear to have about 1.5 inches on the turn to the front guards so 1 inch either way would cut it close.

i havent spaced mine forward, i thought if they rubbed on the back of the guards i would do it, but the tires clear with about 10mm on full lock and articulation, i tried every possible scenario, bar taking off the front sway bar and nothing rubbed. my rims are a -24 off set, 15 x 8. just try them out see what needs modding.

Yeah Ok thought they would be close. Thanks for the info. How did you find the truck after 35's. Did you put them on before the turbo and if so how did it go? I'm finding the wrangler MTR's are pretty good but don't clear that well in the sticky stuff. Hoping the silverstones will improve that plus some more diff clearance as already had a couple of times loosing traction with two clear diff skids! Doing a farm trip in a few weeks where good muds are essential so hoping the silverstones will do the job.

I ran 35x10.5 Silverstones a few years ago and only had a 2 + 2 lift. They were sweet as and never rubbed and that was with bushranger flares and some conveyor rubber mudflaps. They were on big offset 16x8's, ie stuck out a lot.
The Silverstones are a very good tyre but they dig holes really quickly so be prepared to get off the gas in a hurry or make your life a misery! The voids in them are about 20% bigger than a Simex!

yeah what darinz said, they perfect for the east coast where i am based, lots of clay to clear, i had the turbo before i went to 35's, i used to run 33x12.5 Mongrels. silverstones piss all over these plus the diff clearance is better. next thing on the list is to change diff ratios as this will put power back to near enough if i was running 31's again.

Ok thanks guys. I'll using them in a mix of stuff. A lot in the akatarawas where I've found its yellow clay/mud and bloody slippery but also some shale/rock. Keen to get the extra clearance and see what the extra grip is like.

I run 35 simex on 15x8 cruzer offset rims with 2in lift and roughly a inch cut out around whole wheel arch. Only had to fold a small bit on footwell. and i have no rubbing issues.

Well got the silverstones, fitted to 15x8s with -24 offset. Bolt in with some room to spare. Partly went for silverstones for price and partly cos they are a "small" 35 (like 34.5) so fit OK. Try them out in the aka's this weekend but in the paddock they deffinately bite a bit better than my wrangler MTR's. Power difference on the road is not as bad as I thought either. :D
