Further Site changes

Post by mike »

Due to being nearly kicked out of the hosting last night the site has had to revert back to the non integrated forums due to heavy loads.

Its a step backwards in my mind but some people will like it. If this doesnt work and the site has to goto dedicated hosting then the costs of running this site will actually be very high, a lot higher than the current supporters memberships coming in. I think it maybe time for the ORE shop to start back up to help with the costs involved. If people support the shop then they will support the site its as simple as that. If people clicked on the google ads everyday then there wouldnt be any supporters memberships, vendors memberships, shop or anything and google could pay all the hosting, but really who can be bothered doing that

The google ads will be going back in to this old layout very soon, as they are vital at the moment.

So... the morale of this story is, click on lots of ad's?

Shame the site can't earn money from clicking on Tard Me links :(
I'd log in daily to click on ads to help the site, and/or use the shop

I like the more compact listings :)
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

Let us know what we have to do, as users of the site we should be supporting the cost of it

Maybe we have 3 different levels of membership to ORE, bronze $10, silver $20 gold $30 with different levels of features?, maybe this would encourage more people to sign up? and help contribute?

Take a look at club-k.co.nz They have a platinum members section which can obviously only be accessed by platinum members and higher. it is a one off cost of $10 (or more if you want. its up to you). it has things like project updates, links, jokes, general etc in it. it works for us :D

yeah the only prob with that is that the site is currently using around 30to40 gigs of space (old photos and vids) and once the gallerys come back online i estimate that to go up a lot. at the moment its sitting alright as long as i have the forums seperated out. This I think we can live with for a while while i finish the rest of the site off. The old server was a twin proc, 4 gigs of ram 250 gig hd and at peak times it was reaching its limit. hence why on the new hosting they gave me a 24hr to fix or termination of hosting notice. but we are good for now. panics over, back to the shed everyone, god knows thats where ill be
