Terrano Rim help

Post by marmel »

I want to run 32X11.5 on my Terrano. A lot of the guys in the US are running 33's on their pathfinders which helps with clearance and recommend using rims with a backspacing of 3.5 to 4 inches. Does anyone know what rim I need to look out for in NZ to achieve this. The whole offset thing is a bit confusing.

I assume if I get rims (steel 8 inch) for a Terrano they won't have the backspacing I want. I have 50mm rubber flares ready to go on, just need to get some rims.

Will Safari rims stick out a bit further than the Terrano rims?

Rim offset is the measurement from the center line of the rim to the rear of the mounting face [inner side of rim]
Therefore rim offset = Backspace - [ rim width/2]
eg. the distance the mounting face is from the centerline of the rim.
This can be a positive or negative number,
Positive offset is when mounting face is towards outside of rim.
negative offset is when mounting face sits inwards[rim spaced out from vehicle or deep dished]

Not saying you need negative offset as it may push rim out too much, maybe less positive offset will do what you want.
Zero offset is when mounting face is on centerline of rim. The amount of offset required will alter with rim width.
Sorry cant tell you what you need for your vehicle, but this should clear up a bit for you if I havent made it too confusing, someone on here should be able to help with your requirements.
Oh yeh use metric not inches as most offset given in mm.

Thanks for the replies.

4wdbits list the same rim for Safari/Terrano/Surf etc at -24 offset. I'm sure there must be a difference in the factory rims for these vehicles?

I might have to try a Safari rim to see if it has a bigger negative offset than the Terrano rim.

All depends on the lift you have. The guys running 33"s in the states usually have at least 6" of lift and have trimmed the guards. Many of them have also SAS'd their pathfinders.

I have 31x10.5's on 15x8 Steelies -24 offset. The rims that came with the truck were -10. Even with these I get a small amount of rub at full lock with new maxxis bighorns.

I'd suspect that if you're going to go to 32"s, you'll need to do a bit of trimming.

I have been told that the standard 8 inch white spokes with a -24 offset will stick out about an inch further than the 7 inch factory mags. If I want to go any further I will have to go to a 10 inch wheel which would be too wide or look for a different type of alloy wheel.

I guess using a wider tyre would also make the sidewall protrude slightly more than a standard terrano sized tyre?

Stick with the 32" tyres and -24 off set and you will be sweet.
I have had my truck certed for 33" tyres on -24 rims (15x8) and I will need to do a bit of guard trimming to go this way, so I am settling for 32" tyres on this setup.
I have a 2 1/2" suspension lift and 2" body lift. Just going to remove the plastic flares and install Bushranger rubber flares.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I am going to go with a -24 offset rim and then a 2" sus lift and 2" bodylift and trim where required.

-24 in a 15x8 is about 3" back spacing. (well -25.4 would be) -24 in a 15x10 would be 5" backspacing.
Standard Safari wheel offset is -11 and Landcruiser is -11 or -14. Most IFS will have + offset.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.
