Couldn't sleep

Finally got a new camera  don't know what happened to the old one  anyway heres some of whats been going on I"ll post some more tomorrow

With the rears up-front swop and the new front crossmember (moved springs even further forward) it left the shackle angle pretty crap  straight up and down at rest so I decided to have a bit of a hack and weld in a new shackle pivot .... this is the result
Image
Oh and heres a couple of pics of the new shackles can't remember what length I made em to, I make them to the ride height and this is what Steve wanted 8) oh and Jaffa remember those shackle pins you sent me here they are .... drill and fitted for greasing  not doing that again soon, drilling case hardning
Image
Image

And here is the reason for all the effort the entry angle (ignore the rubbish in the way  ) the tires are 35'' grabbers so they are really a 34"
Image
 Pretty sharp ay

Right its tomorrow so heres some more

I'll start with the gearbox X member.... had a heap of short lengths of 1" pipe left over from another job so decided to use it to make a transfer case mounted frame 8) left Steve the job of cutting it all and I just poo'd it together
Image
the mounts down to the X-member are hilux leaf spring bushes and shortened pins and they are spaced that width to match the engine mounts  with them at the same width they both work together eqaully neither taking more load and flogging out... well thats the idea
The X member is also made to be removed to make pulling the gearbox a bit easier bent it for the best clearance too
Image
giving a nice clean underside 8)
Image

Oh and remember how far we pushed the front axle forward  this is what had to give
Image
 Don't look to close some of those welds are a bit ruggard, the gas axe isn't a subtle toy and I had to "bridge" a couple of welds

Tried to get my local certifier to aprove Nib's tick with the steering shaft (an angle cut and weld and then weld a tube over the top) Na  not allowed how'ed I know that wasn't even close to allowing it so I had to cut a 2WD truck one back and F around for 4hs on the lathe to put a new spline in  oh and to cap off the steering shortened up a spare tie-rod and made a end to fit the surf pitman jiont
Image

I think thats enough typing for now more to follow soon

With the steering is there not enough clearance for a ball joint flip to the top of the arm or have you lowered the front spring hangers to clear the balljoint.

I have read where the spring can come up and bash the steering, or do you have bump stops. Just wondering if you saw the issue and how you worked around it. :)

Oh and those welds look good compared to mine

bugger.. oh well, new shaft to be manufactured it is then...

Don't bin it yet  my certifier is known for being a "straight shooter" and on some things isn't willing to adapt, I've noticed others can be a bit different.... go talk to the guy Steve and Mike go to he sounds good

Whats happening with the project

This one will be finished soon... I'm winding up the logging crew 3 weeks - a mounth and then I'm gona take a couple of weeks to clear some extra projects for other people and finish a couple of mine (log splitter and a trailer) and then off I go might be sooner just found out I've lost my export log market
As for the Lemon 8) I haven't given up on it and to those who want the tires no I'm not selling  with a bit of luck I can get access to a shop over there to continue and on my time off I'll fly back and work on it... well thats the plan at the mo

the spring can come up and bash the steering, or do you have bump stops

 way ahead of ya .... the spring has to invert to far for it to hit and yes it will be getting bump stops I'm going to mount the shocks first

Set of XD Falcon springs off an old station wagon, taken two leaves out we'll see how it goes
Got a bit of fine tuning on the shakle location  going to cut it off and weld it a bit further forward yet...
Image

had a slight rub issue
Image
Easy fix a set of 25mm spacers I had sitting in the shed

Gota love the flex 8)

Moving the front spring hanger forward or the shakle hanger forward? I guess the rear for a better shakle angle, Looks good, bright yellow but good.

Oh and why the yellow is it a North Island thing? like the Red Rok and others in the south island have painted stuff?

I guess I should go red and get going on my plan's

I'll move the shackle mount forward... Steve isn't to concerned about road manors  .... I've always got the extra leaves from the coons there if we need to throw them in

Right heres some more Flex pics for the front.... going to play with this too 8)
Image

Not good enough and heres why :?

Image

I guessed wrong for the bush deflection and my shackle pivot is a bit to far back, about 10-15mm should do it.... I know the lack of rear weight and the soft coons arnt helping the rear deck, tank etc should help out a bit
I know these things flex here's a shot of them in action when we jacked the back..... we had the rear almost a meter and half in the air the top of the highlift and the front was still solidly on the ground 8)
this shows the them flexin... and this was after the highlift tipped 8)
Image

Heres a shot of the back up in the air after the jack moved  poor steve didn't know whether to grab his truck or run for cover when it moved
Image

Oh and the last serious piece of the puzzle 8) driveshafts heres the bits I've taken from what he's given me... going to replace the tube with some way heavyer stuff 8) make up some new long travel splines using the origingal female splines and fit clearanced double cardinals at the trany ends

Right this truck is in the new shop and even tho I know you don't want me doing to much to it steve :D I want to see it finished
Oh and Happy Birthday hope you like your present
Built a new Rear X Member with a very big reciever for winch cradle
Image
Image
then added some tow hook mounts
Image
Image
Image
Don't think you'll bend those  really should have taken a pic of your old one
And to finish off I built a new set of shock mounts for the new shocks
Image
Image

I'll get the rear deck frame done for ya this week and if you can get in and cleanup some of that tube you found I'll build a roll bar for the back too

dont know about the nissan diffs, but funny you should mention a bigger v8 as i got my eye on a 4.2 here in Napier that could fit the bill nicely, but then i might as well fit my mates 454 big block in just for laughs.

Damm I hate vista, it has to be the most pithetic offering MS have come out with yet... I've just spent the last hr trying to kill the security settings so I can upload pic's to Photobucket, get this its so pithetic it locks up trying to send error message reports to a MS database so they can suposidly fix the Arghhhhhh! this is the last MS product I will ever pay for

And at the end of it, I can't get it to work... time to swop the drives over and go back to 2000... when I finally have it working I'll post up the pics of the tray back frame I've built for it...

muddy_munke wrote:Nice Fab, Just wondering how much Up travel is on those rear shocks...

 Got that covered we measured the travel and I've set it with 4" of up travel and 8" of drop and no those are the ones were going with

Oh and Tu's all sweet drop in anytime
drop me a txt and I'll give ya directions

And yes Tony I am trying to make space LOL

Yay finally got the pics up, so heres the tray back frame ... there will be a cage getting built into it soon, just need someone to sand up some pipe
Image
The bit hanging down behind the wheel will be a couple of tool box's
Image
and the center of the back sits down at chassi level
Image
I still don't know about this I tapered the sides in a wee bit to line up with the body 8) problem is every time I walk past the blastard thing catches my eye now becouse it dosn't line up :? have to wait and see it covered....

Well looks like you are right H2OLOVA, yet another De-Ranged one being sold as parts, another lemon in to juice, sad to see but when a person continually over commits himself other people's projects the ones he should be working on get put to the side.
i'll get over at some point Stevo and give you a hand with the new hilux.

If he copied my disc off yours, i believe you have Origional solid axle fronts on the rear, with galant calipers.
SASed Isuzu Mu - hilux diffs, Rears up front, disc brake conversion, ifs hub swap, crossover steering, and legal!!!!

Gotflex is right they are cable disk calipers off a Nissan Maxima (same size piston as the gallant) fitted to solid axle hilux front disks..... if you are buying them you will need to get your axle flange machined down to just under the dia of the sheet steel backing plate so the disk will fit over
