looking for an xj for the mrs
looking for an xj for the mrs
Hey guys been looking at trucks for the mrs and she lurvs the look of the xj. trouble is i dont know enough about them, and i have never driven one. i was just wondering how economical they are and how well they drive and also what price we would be looking at for one. the cheaper the better because we are a bit strapped for cash, if anyone could give me information on them that would much appreciated.

Economical doesn't really go in the same sentence as XJ. Think 14l/100kms and anything better is a bonus. It's a 4.0, it's relatively heavy, it's brick shaped and it has a torque convertor auto so nothing going for it in terms of fuel efficiency.
There are diesel manual versions around and I don't know an awful lot about them except that my mechanic mate in the UK who is now on a WJ after running an XJ for a few years (it died of rust or he'd still have it) says they are a crap Italian diesel and he wouldn't touch one with someone else's bargepole.
That said I love my XJ to bits (luckily as it's currently in bits) and I don't ever intend to sell it. It's been utterly faultless for the past year and 18,000k's I've owned it and it's only in bits because I took it apart to modify it and I'm waiting for parts. If economy isn't a biggie for you then go for it.
