Come out on the Gary/Okuku trip on the 16th to start breaking the bars in, there (should be) no need to use them on banks, just a bit of bush and branches. (But you never know what some divers might find - I ended having to winch off sitting on my springs and chassis because I didn't check a section of track before proceeding down a washout  )

On the 16th huh? I might look into it.

I'll look forward to seeing it - last time I saw it in the flesh was at Sheffield, oh except for when I saw you drive past an intersection in town one day.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

I'll see if i can get a late pass from the mrs for that sunday. I've been on a few boys trips lately and been in the dog box for it. But I'll see what I can do.

Yeah me 40 gets a lot of use. I'm looking forward to jumping back in it. My Holden is juicy as. 250km is all I get from a tank around town.

Had Jerry's ariel mounted for the PRS today and radio wired in. It's all working well.

Saw another truck with 6 lights on top like mine. But I like the way he had his setup. So I've done the same.
I have three switches for the six spots. They work in banks of 2. So I can turn the ones facing backwards on separately.

instant fail wof... unless they are hooked up to the reverse switch...or you turn them around so they face forward and only work on high beam at wof time

yeah I know.
That's why I had it removable. :D
On the left side of the rail you'll see a trailer plug enabling you to simply unplug the spots. Then undo 2 screws and the whole thing is off. You can do it in a minute or so.

The 2 HID lights on the front bull bar put out the same if not more light than the 6 IPFs on the roof.
The 6 were cheaper than the 2 HIDs. But the HIDs are an amazing beam. I really do feel sorry if I dip my lights by mistake, coz when they are on you ya can't see a damn thing!

Save up for those HIDs man.

We went out for a bunny shoot only to find it foggy at our spot. Plus a full moon (you could just see it) was about. People say they never come out on a full moon. I always thought that was bull. But tonight not a bloody thing.

Opened a can of worms today.

Took me 40 in when i couldn't find a steel on steel noise coming from the under right side of the truck. :?
We found that problem and sorted it, nothing major. But while under there we noticed the left rear leaf springs front end mount had sheared a supporting rivet. No problem. Off with the leaf spring/remove all remaining rivets and replace them use bolts.
So as the leaf spring came out we noticed the track arm was broken. One of the top rear bush mounts had come away. Not due to anyone's poor welding skills, as this part is off a Surf. It was a factory weld that broke. It had been broken for some time. Absolutely NO penatration in the weld.

I'm only glad I haven't been doing any burnouts lately.
Me brother is only a few weeks away from his burnout pad being all ready to go. :D

This is how the left rear looks.

This is the right. Not pretty.

This is where one rivet was sheared. Here it's been removed.

everything is rivited on the 40 mate, the entire chassis is riveted as well as all the suspension mounts, when you flex up a 40 all the front panels pull out of line due to the chassis flexing/moving on the rivets. its pretty cool really and they are fawkin strong !!
If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!

Hi Pete, whem you had the original front guards, did you have much trouble with your 35's rubbing on them? Thinking i may have to widen mine as they hit the outside of the guards under flex. And what about your back ones, any rubbing?
thanks, Arthur. still gotta come look at your back brake setup too.

Hi Arthur.
My brothers 40 is on 35's as well and his isn't far from stock height. Nah you don't have much trouble with 35's. Just trim the rear guards a little and setup your steering stoppers so the tires don't rub.
You will lose a good percentage of your steering lock though. That's the only down side.

Pop over and check the brakes anytime mate. 021-100-1408
