Terrano Disconnectors.

Post by kiwipete »

Ok, since I failed my last WOF because I had no swaybars on, I want to make some disconnectors to release them.

Now, the rears will be easy enough, cut the shaft, sleeve it and weld the sleeve on one section, assemble, drill and pin.

The front is going to be another story.
Here is a pic of it in place

and laid out on the floor.

How would I do a disconnector with this as its all designed to be sandwiched together via a bolt. :?
Would I be best to do it as two shorter bolts, nut one and thread a sleeve to hold the other bolt secure.Bore out the sleeve for the other bolt and pin?
Would I need to do both sides seeing as it's IFS, or will the other side move freely with the sway bar connected?
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

I see a problem with the front as the sleeve is very short (about 35mm) and it is part of the "sandwich" effect of holding the unit together tightly. I think simply cutting and sleeving would not allow it to be tensioned at the rubber bushings?

This is what I'm thinking of doing for the front swaybar.

Would this be ok, given the short section of the sleeving?

That would work fine for the rear setup in my situation, but the front is another story.
See the pictures I posted for a better explanation.

My Mu had the same set up as yours, I used a idea from club isuzu.

It's a 150mm m10 bolt that I cut the thread longer on so it would be able to bolt the bottom bushes together, It's disconnected at the moment but when I want to reconnect it (for wofs) I lift up the sway bar and slid the bush and washer up then secure it with a R clip
