legalitiy of notching the chassis rails?

Post by rokhound »

Hey all.

I want to notch the rear frame rails on the surf to fit my shocks. Obviously it will be gusseted etc to regain the strength.
As I have just fabbed a tri 4 link there are no other suspension hangers beyond where I want to do the channeling, just a body mount each side.

Can some give the guide lines (well as they understand them anyway  ) as to what I need to do in regard to reinstating the rails. I was going to U channel it with 6mm plate and seam weld around all edges. Will this be suitable?

This rig is going to be road legal, hence the qusetion, if it was bash only, I would just do it :P

Cheers

Cheers Wayne. Other option is to notch out the fuel tank, that might be an easier option :)
