O2 sensor after header install

Post by whib »

I got some new headers put on my escudo, its the 8v throttle body injection engine, and it was a great improvement over the standard cracked ones. Three days later the engine light came on, and i did the diagnostic check and it thinks somethings up with the Oxy sensor, So i reset the codes by removing neg on the battery, and went for a drive, and after an hour or so it came back on.
Has anyone had anything like this happen to them? i cant take the sensor out to have a look, as the exhaust people welded it into the new header.

Are you sure they have welded them in? That would destroy the sensor very quickly. Normally they weld in the bung, the sensors are then screwed in to those bungs. And yes a faulty O2 sensor will generate an engine code if the computer was expecting a signal and not getting it (or getting values out of the norm). Go back to the shop and get them to test the sensosrs. They have done the work, they should be able to fix whatever they have stuffed up. This time don't reset the code. Go them with the code on so they know what to look for.

Also, just looking at the sensor won't really tell you much. It has to be tested on a scope while running in the exhaust.

ok cool, thanks for that, yeah i couldnt even take it out, there no hexagon bit (sorry, don't know what that bit is called) for me to unscrew the sensor out, which makes me think they welded over that bit of the sensor.
