I have to admit that I thought it was a shorty (like mine) and not a MWB. I wish I had got a MWB. how long does it take to strip the old girl down, the Cruiser not your mother...........(deleted dodgy comment)

Guess its the angle eh.

To remove the roof it'd be about 30min maybe, there's quite a few bolts and need two guys to lift it.

- 2 bolts: each rear corner
- Need to remove the rear trim inside
- 4 bolts: to remove the plastic pocket inside rear passenger side (to get to some bolts)
- 6 bolts: inside panels under sliding windows 3 each side.
- 4 bolts: along top of 'roll bar'
- 6 screws: to remove trim along windscreen
- 4 bolts: under that trim along windscreen
- Remove FRP badges each side because the cheeky buggers have hidden a 10mm bolt under each!!

Then you can lift it off.

Only reason I took it off was because I had another roof without racks on it, thought they'd probably get hooked up on branches etc.

I also have a 3rd spare roof which I damaged a while ago. I've now cut it down to a half roof so it just covers the driver and passenger, making it kind of a ute. Will probably chuck it on like that in summer 8)

Yeah the rear doors are full length. But thats what I've got the cut down ones for 8) (not in the pic)

I think Toyota did intend to have half doors on these because I've seen a couple on the net but most of them just have the full barn door.

Picked this up last night - '87 Surf 2.0 Petrol, manual, lifted a bit, Rancho shocks, rear LSD, Goodyear Wrangler A/T's.. ok it needs a re-power.. maybe a 2.8 Supra motor or Lexus V8 ( Later down the track )
Cant wait to get it out and on some tracks - being in Auckland the Jeep 4wd park would be good as I did the free 4wd training course there and had a ball!

My Toyota Carina GT which has the awesome 20valve blacktop 4age engine, 18" mags lowered.. with the hilux - Lifted versus Lowered!

Here's my work in progress.
Started out like this. Bought off a guy in palmy with v6 commy motor and lift already done.
looked nice
Image
Drove it round a bit, body started getting a bit tired (rust starting to appear everywhere, dents etc) and then did the waikato cheerleaders easter trip and completely finished off the body and apparently the motor.
So then i did this about 5 weeks ago
Image
goodbye body
Image
Image

And i bought this off trademe with a blown head gasket
Image
Mint condition body, couldn't find rust anywhere, straight as and just a bit of clear coat coming off the front guard.

Then it went on
Image
Image
Image
Hey look there's a solid front axle in there

And this is what powers it. Hopefully this one lasts a bit longer. this is my third engine now
Image

Body swap actually only took me one weekend with the help of my uncle and his awesome workshop full of tools then the next weekend i figured i would finally take a look at the engine and find out why it has a really bad tick. That seems to have dragged on a bit but finally got it going yesterday :D :D

What are you doing to your motors? shagging bottom ends? or cooking them? Have you thought about baffels in the sump?

Didn't inspect the first one i blew up but that one shat a couple of conrods out the side of the block just after going up the steep dunes at 90mile beach a couple of times in a row. This time run a bearing, didn't really inspect much after i found about a 10mm layer of filings at the bottom of the sump. Both times was running at about 100deg c and steep angles so i guess the oil was getting thin and not into the places it needed to be. Using some thicker oil this time and looking at doing something with the sump also.
