16yr old newbie in southland

Post by Dirtydog »

hey guys,

i have recently received a 1990 nissan terrano r3m, with 2.7 ltr turbo diesel.
its pretty stock standard, the only thing that is after market about it is a nudge bar that i brought for $50 of trademe. its got just about brand new tires, and it has runnerboards that i am going to take off soon because they are a bit rusted, i also want to get a snorkel for it, but i will have to save up for one as i only have a weekend job, cause i go to gore high school.

so anyway, now that ya know what i have,
i really want to get into 4x4ing and i dont know where go from now. i live next to the mataura river in mataura, and enjoy fishing, and i want to start taking it down by it to get used to how my truck feels, and kinda experiment with not very difficult things, like a little track down there, that has a little bit of bumps, and a bit of rocks.

ill put some pics up of it when i get the advertising off it that the previouse owner put on it.

Thanx,

Tristan

Wow, its great to hear so many people went to the same school as me, i expected most of the people on the forum to be up north lol.
Im definitly glad that i aint going to saint dooleys, but, well they have to get an education aswell.

its also good to hear that theres a few terranos on here too, mean i can ask alot of questions about my one.....

also, does anyone know of any places where i can learn to 4x4? i was thinking of going to Piano flat, but before i go up there it looks like i will need a snorkel, cause some of the pictures i have seen there is quite alot of water. im thinking of a place that has a little bit of mud, few bumps and maybe a few stones, just to get used to how the truck handels on different terrain, and so i can have a little bit of fun without too much danger towards my truck due to inexperiance.

Thanks,
Tristan

hey man welcome!
you may want to stay clear of piano flat if your inexperienced it can be narly! and you wouldnt want to go alone.
id say a good trip to start off on is mavora with another 4wd. stick to the tracks and youll be fine!
i use to have a wee play at the north entrance of oreti beach, make sure you clean the truck down well afterwards, they may haveblocked the entrance off now though. best bet is to join the gore 4wd club. PM njv6/glen about that as he's their short skirt wearing (or maybe thats just around me) secretary!

Welcome Tristan! Funny you should mention the above, because I've just spent the night doing just that on my Terrano!

Hi Tristan

I have a Terrano, same era as yours and same condition too by the sound of it, pretty much stock.

I'm actually the local cop at the Mataura station. Call in and see me sometime and show us your truck and what you are planning on doing to it.

Just make sure you have a WOF and Reg eh...

I am on leave at the moment but I will be back on the 14th August, feel free to call in after that.

Heya, thanks for the comment,
you have probably seen my truck before,
it was my mothers truck and it had "Aspiring Angels, Psychic Comunications"

but that advertising is mainly off it now, only got the passengers door and rear window to do.

I have only got my learners at the moment too, so ill come in when my mother is able to drive with me.

I will take pictures of it tommorow, when mums car is out of the way, and its not dark, then i can park it in a spot where i can accually get proper photos of it with its new nudge bar (best $50 spent on trademe)

heres a pic i took 5 mins ago

Hey mate, Mavora is cracker on a hot day. me and a cobber spent a couple days up there. Piano flat is fun but the start can be a little scary. Go get some experiance 4x4n and you could tag along with us one year. North entrance to the beach is allright but as a previous post said make sure ya clean from bumper to bumper after it as the sand can cause things to go wrong. I see your in the metorpolise of M town!!! I live in Brydone, just down the road. If ya ever wanna go for a blat give us a yell., and get intouch with the Gore Trailblazers club. freindly chaps there. By the way youve proberly seen my truck round M town. Grey LWB cruiser, snorkel, winch , 33"S ect.

Take it ez, Steve
