cable locker into a bj74

Post by summit »

gday, new to site just a couple of questions for you cruiser experts,

just had a front diff head out of a 60series cruiser given to me, it is a factory cable locked version in excellent cond. was wondering if i could run this in the rear diff of my bj74?? (factory open not lsd)

also if this was not to fit in my housing, wld the 60 series rear diff housing bolt up to my truck? i can get the rear diff but the diff head is gone from it. (it was also a cable locker but the locker axles are still there with the housing)

thanks alot

Yeah it'll fit in your housing ok but you'll need a long spline axle for the diff lock

cool, only concern is that long spline axle might not bolt onto my housing. pretty sure theyre semi floating, where as my diff is a full floater?? cheers

as long as you have a full floater it will go in .you will need the SHORT side axle with the longer locker spline.and you will have to notch out your housing a little bit with a grinder or plasma cutter .(about 15mm by 30mm off one side).if your mate has a 60 housing with a locker axle grab it .the short side axle is the same lenght.if you want to put the 60 housing in your truck you might need to cut off the spring pads and re weld them on in the right position

this might be the easiest way of doing it, might give me a bit more width as well. pick up housing this weekend so will sort something out

60 series rear housing is 50mm wider than 74
has your diff got the axles that poke out of the wheels sort of like the front then you have a full floater and it will fit.
also check the diff ratios as the 60's run 3.7 and 4.1 ratio diffs, count the teeth on both the crown wheel and pinion on both diff heads
doesn't play well with small vehicles

cheers for advise, put 60 series housing into my truck on Saturday and got locker all hooked up (a bit of cutting and welding between diffs) extra 50mm width gonna be good tho.
