New tow wagon for MNC family

Post by MNC »

Well, the wife said the pram didn't fit in the back of her 2 door and that she needed something bigger. So I got her an 80 Series - pram should fit now

I've been looking for a while but hard to find one in our price range...

This one is auto and was advertised as having diff locks but it doesn't. Not really an issue as it's just going to be a shiney family wagon/tow bus.

Wagon has the 3F-E 4.0ltr petrol engine.

The petrol wagons sell alot cheaper than the 4.2ltr Diesel that everyone wants and since we wont be doing many kms in it I reckon after road user charges and a big difference in price this is the way to go. Time will tell...

It's a NZ new truck and seams to sit a little higher than the imports already. Its got 4 new munro shocks and i'm just about to replace the sway bar bushes. It rides pretty nicely already although I had thought about some new 2" lift coils just to top it off... need to be convinced it's worth it first :?

Reckon i'll get some black 15x8's and run 33x12x15's which should easily fit (although would need to cert it which is a pain).

I might be wrong here (hope I am) but I thought you were only allowed to increase tires size by 5% without getting a cert.

31" standard going to 33" = 6.45% bigger.

If I'm wrong here please let me know. I just dont want to risk any issues with insurance due to this.

Was also thinking of getting at least 8" wide rims from standard 7" - not sure on the rules here though... :?:

interesting...
I did the calcs when going from 31s to 33s on the vx, and it came up as a 4.77% increase?

OK so had a look on that site. Think that would be because it is saying a 31x10.5x15 is 30.97" high & a 33x12.5x15 is 32.52" high = 1.55" = 5% which is just OK.

Would think this could cause problems if you get a 33" tire that is bigger (as not all 33"s are created equal).

If someone could confirm going to 33's and wider rims (as long as tire within guards) doesn't need a cert that would be awesome.

just do it dude

to be sure though

open your drivers door and look for sticker with factory tyre size on it

mine is 275/70 R16 which equates to 31.2"/10.8" R16

for the record, I run 33s on a 15 x 8.5 rim with a -34 offset, they run fairly flush or just a weeny bit out the guards

can take pic if you wish

Liking the sound of that setup - dont see many 8.5" rims so I might look for either 8's or 10's

What are the rules on increasing rim width?

Mines a petrol so doubt the speedo has ever 'stopped' for any period of time. Being NZ new I'm confident the 288kms are genuine

Put all that shit in writing to your insurance company so theres a written record of it on the policy, all the mods including stuff that dosent require certifying get sent to my broker and put on my policy

That's some good advice. They cant say anything if you've told them and they keep debiting your account for premiums.

Nice!
