Seized caliper pistons

Post by Andrew1706 »

I'm rebuilding the calipers for my 80 Series and have only got 2 out of 8 pistons out so far.

The first one I pryed out with screwdrivers and by hand the second one I had to use vice grips to loosen them up but the remaining ones are being very stubborn and I can smash away at them with vice grips but I don't really wanna break them.

Is there any other way I can get them out without being rough?

Have a search on here , I posted up about using a grease gun . Only way I could get my hilux pistons out , broke two cheap g clamps in the process so the grease gun gets a fair bit of pressure behind it :)

Yeah I found a few threads about using air pressure but once one piston is out it wont work for the others?? :?

just use clamps or blocks or wood or something to stop them moving out to far

Haha, got the first caliper done using vice grips then tried the air compressor idea.

Got my finger once, learnt my lesson.

Ran out of clamps though
