Anyone running the new goodyear mtrs?? radical looking tread

there doesnt seem to be any logic to those blocks. I reckon the tire companies get their kids in and get them re-arranging blocks on a rectangle board each year and make the one that is the weirdest looking pattern

Yeah well the old mtr was a pretty good tyre not sure what they are up to there!!!

Think they will work well. Directional digging from centre to outer edge, bit of road noise/wear assisting centre blocks, and small just incase i need to reverse out of that bog reverse lugs on inside edge.

Should be good for what they are designed for.

No you wont be able to yet. Think it was something rediclious like around $500 per tyre for a 31"

I could be wrong tho, rumours in the 4x4 world

however they no longer make them in my size so have to look elsewhere

They might be a good tyre but will be way overpriced.

My next tyre will be Kumho 71

so far i have a quoe for $400 each . i got in touch with the shop and they are sayying xmas if all going well.

I don't think they will be too bad a tyre ... with the paddle effect of the outside lugs they should move mud and the dense close to center strip should give you not to bad a niose on road, plenty of snipping in these lugs so new should be plenty of edge on the dry hard stuff.... the only bastard I see is they are directional with sides, so if you have to fit your spare to the wrong side it will be running in reverse

Got a price for 265/75-16s to replace my old Wranglers, $600 each!!!! oh they could do them for $580(nice guys) went for the Kumho kl71s instead at $320ech, so far onroad 10x better havent had them muddin yet but will soon see..

That's one gay looking tread pattern. Seems no logic, wait and hear the reports I suppose. I thought the original MTR was shit in mud as well, but the rockhoppers swore by them. KL71's are good all round tyres, especially in mud, snow and ice but the problem with them is the rubber compound is too soft and wears out too fast. Plus sidewalls too weak. Just my 2c worth through experience.

Roadnoise doesnt really worry me but the KLs are deffinatly quieter, The MTRs were absolutly hopeless in Ice/Snow. Ive never lost control of a car so much during winter like when I had them on. Never been a fan of kumhos either but thought Id give them a go,I know alot of companys running them on cruisers and there getting a real good run.

Just saw the new MTR's in action couple weekends ago. At bro's place on East Cape (North of GIsborne) and went out for MUDDY drive. A Jeep Wrangler was trying some of these new ones, apparently had some issue with his old style MTR's (which were new) so tyre shop leant him set of the new ones and said try em out and if happy you can have them for $100 per tyre extra (dont know how much old style ones were).

His feedback in comparison: MUCH quieter and more stable onroad due to centre lugs.

They went VERY WELL in the mud, sent it flying for miles. Not sure how theyd go on smaller engined rig as took bit of spinning to clear them, but once spinning...they chomped through that mud like ya missus with the chardonnay.

If I got some kind of deal, the prices came down, or I just had enough $ I didnt care then I'd be seriously considering these.
