88 GQ Rattling problem

Post by hookie »

Hey guys heres a tough one, the shortie has got a rattle that starts at 50kmph-1600rpm in 4th gear and stops as soon as it gets over 1800rpm 55-60kmph it also sometimes does it in 5th at 100kmph, it dissapears instant you take your foot off the gas to and only appears to happen under light load conditions, it does. not happen when reving the engine at standstill.

ive checked for loose guards, just rebuilt the exhaust, checked and greased the unis and driveshaft and checked angles, looked for any signs of rubbing but nothing, it is definatly comming from behind the firewall somewhere underneath.

Any help would be much appreciated as this ones got me stumpped. cheers hookie

hey guys sorry for the false alarm finally just nailed it. turned out to be the rear brake rotor guards viabrating against the caliper at the certain rpm. ended up tracing it by hitting the chassy with a hammer and tracing the vibrations hope this saves someone some time and grey hairs in the future.

easy fix placed some high temp gasket material between the guards and the caliper surface.
