Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
Well I thought it was a blown cv but have stripped one of my axle flanges on my full time 4wd 80 series landcruiser.
Theres a guy on here 'furnace' who is selling a set for a very good price but he hasn't been online for two weeks.
There is one for sale on trademe but I'd like to replace a set and $108 is a bit too much for me to fork out at the moment.
What have you?

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
i have one you can borrow till you buy a new one BUT i need it back as its a spare.
is the cv spline ok? if the flange stripped it most likely damaged the spline on the cv as well.

If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!
Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
80s are notorious for wearing the drive plate and the cv spline .to fix it properly you should really replace both cvs and plates (sounds expensive) just replacing the plates will work but you will probably find you still have some "slop"and they will wear quicker .(my 2 cents worth hope it helps)

Yeah I'm replacing both CVs and the engineer inside me says I should replace both flanges too or else you're creating another weak point.

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
Yea yea, I'll get in touch - I may be down that way on the weekend for rooties.
Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
If it's a pre 93 truck go for the wider flanges and longer cv's out of the later 80 cruisers. More spline = stronger.

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
Bumping this back up incase anyone has any cheap.
Got a quote from Toyota today, $219 inc gst EACH, pass.
Found this which works out to be NZD$150 but shipping is quoted as AU$175
going to email the people and ask if theres cheaper options
Also was curious about Toyota genuine FWH hubs so got the guy to price them up and he laughed - $1700 each - there's two in the country if anyones keen

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges

Hmmm will try STA - but I can't seem to find many listings for FWHs?
Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
The ones from Aus look like it is for CV and Flange, wonder what the quality of the CV is. The overseas freight cost seems to be the same no matter where it is going. Would be quite a good price if the freight was cheaper, also wonder ifthe freight cost would be the same to 4 as for 2

Jafa does trailgear ones for $355 for a pair of flanges, they are stronger and they are Chromoly.

Hmmm, could be a good thing.
For 80 series? Long spline or short spline?

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
They are probably short, will try and remember to measure mine.
What CV's did you end up getting, how much were they and where from.
Thanks

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
I haven't got any yet, got quoted $130ea+gst from BNT which is arse considering I got quoted $75+ea using my companies trade account before I quit so not sure the guy will go back on it. BNT guy says theres none in the country and they would have to order them in.
Then got in contact with a guy on trademe selling them and he said he's got one 'big' spline and none of the others.
Little bit more running around to do yet, it's not urgent but I'm getting withdrawls from not being able to drive it
The australian option is looking a bit better.

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
Hi
Checked the length of the Trailgear flanges, they are the same as the original early ones but would be stronger as they are Chromoly.
Also had a look and some Longfield hub gears for the AISIN hubs, the teeth on the outside of the hub gear are alot shorter that the spline length of the flange so I would say that the drive flanges would be quite a bit stronger than F/W hubs even with the stronger Longfield hub gears fitted.
If you get stuck for some CV's I have got some that I got off TM a while ago, not sure of the quality and how strong they are, especially with an electric locker in the front.
Cheers

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
I'm not too fussed about the CVs at the moment, anything that gets the truck going again.. have you used them? I've got no idea how many ks mine had done but the truck had done 415,000kms so age probably was a factor.
Don't have a locker either
This all came about by showing up 3 safaris of different modification levels

Hi Andrew,
CV's are brand new, just been sitting on the shelf in the shed.
They are the early ones.
Just checked with Toyota, they have CV's $298 +GST and flanges $195 + GST off the shelf.
Have also got some trail gear flanges, one issue with these is that holes for drive pins are larger than std so would need to increase size of drive pins by drilling bigger hole in hub, drill and pins provided with flanges or make two small bushes to fit over the existing pins.
Have you heard back from Aussie site.

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
Nah haven't heard from the Aussie site, they have 4 emails listed and I picked the first one so might spam the other 3 now or ask on their ebay listing.
Yeah $220 per flange from Toyota, so $440 all up it isn't worth it if I can get manual locking hubs for $3XX or Trailgear flanges for $3XX.
Genuine Toyota seems a little over the top too, $335 for 1 cv.
A little birdie just told me on another forum that he used Hilux FWHs on both his 80 series front diffs which in that case mean they are the same as 60 series Cruiser which I have sitting in the back yard so once I get them off I might have a set of flanges already.

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
Just got a reply from the Aussie site,
$95 shipping for the pair, so AU$345 (125+125+95) equals NZ$423 plus whatever customs I may encounter.
These are the longer spline CVs and flanges.

Hi Andrew,
I think you will just pay GST.
I would be keen for a set for my daily driver.
Maybe there are some others that would want some so could get a discount and share the freight, if we bought more than 3 would require a customs number which I have got so I could buy if required.
What do you think
Thanks
Tim

Re: Wanted: 80 Series Axle Flanges
Yeah that sounds good, I'll email them back and ask what sort of deal they can do on say, 5 or 10 sets just to get an idea of the cost.

I have just emailed Steve to see what sort of price he can do
