if someone in the area has a dehumidifier it works really well to put them in the cab with the doors and windows closed for a few days, it will help to dry out the wiring loom and plugs and stop them corroding.
Nothing worse then getting it all back together and having endless electrical issues.

Great job guys

Now there's a very good idea ... I was thinking today about the computer and other boxes of electronics that makers insist on putting in the foot-wells
They need to be opened up and washed in clean water if the water that Skid played sub in was really dirty

Corrosion works very quickly on the very fine tracks etc on the boards
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

nup, its at my mates house ready for a strip down

my week is rather screwed as I have my daughter all week and a family thing this weekend, otherwise I would of stayed up all night to look at it myself.
so if its not looked at by monday, then I will be going round to strip it myself

the dehumidifer has been getting emptied every 5-6 hours so far over the last couple of days

the boys noticed the standard chassis cracks around steering box when motor was pulled, so will have to fix that as well and the thrust bearing is a little bit in need of replacing as well

all fluids are drained, just curious to know if I should be putting something back in there whilst its sittnig idle :?:

I cant say enough thanks to everybody whos helped so far

I hope you boys remember how that motor came out, coz I wasnt home to watch

and what the hell were you hippies on about, I run out of piss.

the chilly bin in the back of the 80 is still full of green bottle and some orange ones too and I fond a few full orange cans in my bed later that night too

never thought I would see sadam wasting tui like that

Also, this is a fairly accurate re-enactment of what happened and how deep it was except for the fact that I was in a flowing river, so water was coming in fast and beating up my cruiser...........

Things could always be wrose.

Why not just put oil back in the diffs? Then its one thing done and off the list.

just curious to know, if the diesel will help loosen any more of the coffee liquor thats in there and then drain and refill with the oil then

or do ya wheel it back and forth down the drive for a bit to clean inside housings/gearbox before draining diesel

transfer case must have an awesome seal, cos the oil is like new in there

fair point, I guess it all depends how long it will be before its up and running again, diffs will usually run fine with a bit of water in there and it only really causes damage when they sit around so it all seperates. I'm sure at this point (until the motors stripped) you won't no how long it's going to sit for so diesel may be a good idea.

good luck champ.

Must be that snorkel thing that stops the water going in to the motor...
Or could be some thing else

righto then, down tp the nitty gritty of it
had a bloody busy day today at work so did not get much looked at, but did get most of motor stripped down........

it may be a bit blurry, but if you look close enough, you will see balck marks on the pulleys and one on the block in a different place, this is far as the crank turns round. It isabout 20mm away from doing one complete revolution, so it seems we may have a couple of bent rods or something. We suspect the middle 2 pistons due to them being the ones that don't do a full cycle.......

Image

the head seems fine. The camshaft spins freely and all the valves look like they are doing what they are supposed to do with no odd movements or anything like that. A clean up and it should be good.............

I will be pulling sump off on Wednesday night to investigate deeper and hopefully having an accurate answer to the inability to turn over and then the list of bits will be made and sought

righto then

went round tonight to pull sump and determined why donk not wanting to turn over....................

Image

so, once the sump was off we were turning it back and forth and shining torches etc in there but could not see any problem at all........

Image

so we decided maybe the gears behind the front cover were jammed or something.........

Image

but they looked mint as well, so by now we were getting dumbfounded and scratching heads, when I spotted some shiny parts down around the bottom of the number 1 rod, so we took out the rod and piston........

Image

and wouldn't ya faaarking know it.......

ITS BENT............

Image

So we only have one bent rod, which is a piss to find after pulling the whole motor down, but it had to be done.

So tomorrow I will price up a new rod, head gasket, water pump, cam belt and then it goes back together

hope you welly boys remember how the faaark it came out

p.s. gotta repair chassis cracks first
