Safari pinion bearing

Post by Hombrey »

Guys my 89 SWB is seeping diff oil past the pinion seal. Its also been a little noisy back there for a while and the mechanic thinks its probably the pinion bearings. I'm looking at getting both the bearing and seal done which apparently means diff head disassembly and about $800. So while its out considering doing the diff lock thing. Any recomendations/prices on diff locks would be appreciated.

Don't think they do one for the rear. Not sure if lockrite do either. ARB do airlockers for them of course. I've got one in the front, love it, factory in the rear. When I thought my diff pinion bearing was gone, it wasn't when we pulled it out. Just needed a good tightening.

Yeah mines been making a noise for a while. Never leaked though till the other day noticed it starting to seep and had just had a warrant where the mech said the pinion was a bit noisey so I'm thinking might as well get it sorted. Given the $1400 for an ARB I'm thinking of just doing the pinion and waiting till a factory one comes up for grabs.
