Do i have an LSD?

Hi new member,

Ive got an 88 Surf 2.4l Noticed today up on the snow that the rear diff was only spinning one wheel. Ive tried searching and found no anwswers.

On the Nameplate on the truck W56 Trans, and axle G282

I had a look on the diff housing and only saw a N2 Stamped on it near the filler plug.

Your diff is an 8 inch ,, 4.3 to 1 ratio ,, 2 spider open

Need to find an LSD then.

Also i noticed when i jacked it up and spun one wheel, the other wheel didnt turn. The right wheel is quite hard to spin. So im going to pull the drum apart and see whats wrong with it.

But thats weird how it didnt spin...

Put a lock right in it...way better than an LSD

Im not sure what lock right is. Iv looked at so many on the net that im all mixed up.

At the end of the day, 2 wheels spinning is 2 wheels spinning.. isnt it?

on snow lockrites can be dangerous if one wheel locks without warning.

Some of my friends going up mountain tracks to ski fields have nearly gone over the side with the lockrites

There isnt any real danger of that happening where i go

if you want to know for sure if it's LSD, jack it up so both rear wheels are off the ground, spin one side, if the other side spins in the SAME direction it's LSD, if the other side spins in the OPPOSITE direction it's open.

It probably means it is an open diff or otherwise it is a stuffed limited slip

I think Jase (86-surf on here) is wrecking a surf with a 4.3 lsd in it and he's in rotorua. Cheaper than a lockright but don't have a very good reputation.
