3 out of 5 Tyres gone down. Wtf?
3 out of 5 Tyres gone down. Wtf?
Okay so we went upto Woodhill last weekend and ended up with front/drivers tyre going flat in the mudpit, no dramas pulled it off and bolted on the spare - kept on trucking.
Had a wicked time and headed home, got halfway there and noticed the other front one was going down, got to a gassy where it was nearly flat and pumped it back up, watching it for 10mins seemed to be holding pressure with no leaks.. okay, sweet - off home.
Got home, tyre was still holding 32psi from the gassy and thought... its time for a beer.
Couple days later took a look at the truck and the Front/Drivers tyre is flat again - but thats the spare we bolted on in the forrest..
FFS.
So now three of the five tyres have gone down with one of them deciding it would hold pressure after pumping it back up at the gassy (still holding 32psi), okay cool..Took them off, pumped them up and they are both leaking from around the bead, water them down and the bubbles that come out are MUDDY as.
I'm guessing ive got shit in there so tried to clean it out with a brush and hose but still leaking out, wondering if anyone has any suggestions, rather not have to take the tyre to get removed from the rim just so i can clean the crap out (also have no ####### clue how i would fit them in the Echo..)
Help would be appreciated!
Cheers
Alex.

Theres only one effective way to get the shit out and thats to peel the tyres off the rims and give everything a good clean out, if they are tubeless the mud and crap will be stopping the beads from sealing properly or if they have tubes in them the mud and crap would have punchured the tubes

Re: 3 out of 5 Tyres gone down. Wtf?
Sadam - Cheers mate, yeah they are tubeless so i guess my next mission is strapping them to the bonnet and boot of the echo and trying to get them to the tyre shop haha.
PS. The Video ends just after i killed the tyre at the mud pit, can hear the air pissing out.. well i can

Get some onboard in your truck and you can keep pumping them up

Re: 3 out of 5 Tyres gone down. Wtf?
You can try popping the beads at home using your Hilift jack.
Put wheel under truck, and sit foot of the jack on the tyre right beside the rim, then start jacking. Weight of the truck should pop the bead so you can clean them out. Then just pump it all up again.

Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
Re: 3 out of 5 Tyres gone down. Wtf?
Kinda thought of doing something simular to that when i had them on the lawn, use the weight of the quad to break the bead and get in there but useing the hose was worried would end up with water in the rims.
Does anyone else have this issue?
Random its happened to three tyres on the one outing..

its not random dude
if they are tubeless like you say, then its perfectly acceptable for them to go down.
I have had all 4 tyres go down within a week of wheeling on tubeless tyres and sometimes no tyres go down.
its all part of 4 wheeling

Don't let your tyres down less than 20 psi

I had the same thing on a recent trip, at least you got home I popped 5 beads on one track and only travelled about 1 km !! 35" tyres as well, tubeless and too lower pressure was the issue.
Take them off and get them cleaned.

Kiaora Guys
Took them through to the boys at Mag n Turbo in Panmure who took them off and gave ema clean for me, now holding pressure no troubles.
skid - It shows how much i still have to learn, had my truck for 8 months now and been through the Woods freaking heaps in that but was the first time ive ever encountered that particular problem. I was also running at 32psi too so musta been a good knock, that sandy shit gets everywhere though..
Onboard air definatly just went up on the list
Cheers everyone
much appreciated!

see 4wdbits buy heavy tubes , then run low pressure more traction

its a viscious cycle
you buy tubes and run lower presure, then the dirt etc gets in between tube and tyre and ya get pinhole punctures
or continue to run tubeless and after a few trips theres enough dirt etc in the beads to finally create a small gap for the air to exit
it never ends

X2
I run heavy duty tractor tubes and I still get shitloads of pinhole punctures from grit and crap getting through the beads and causing friction between the tyre and tube
Sometimes you just pump them back up and they stay up and sometimes you pull the tubes out and cant find the leak..... cant farking win

Re: 3 out of 5 Tyres gone down. Wtf?
just had to replace all five tubes in my muds, as the tyre shop that originally fitted them did not remove a little sticker from inside the Tyre. Had worn through 3 tubes and other two very close.
Would recommend re-locating the valve stems if you are going to use tractor tubes as well. .

Re: 3 out of 5 Tyres gone down. Wtf?
Its a mind boggling debate for me,
I run Simexs on my suzuki, kept getting flat tyres running 15psi offroad when I didnt have tubes, so I fitted tubes and now I run around 8 - 10 psi and never had a flat tyre since (touch wood over the last 3 years)
Yet in my Terrano, I have crap firestone 22degress muds, never had a flat tyre with no tubes running 15 psi offroad, but yet at Easter I decided to fit tubes drove 700kms to westport, got maybe 8kms into the bush at 20psi and had 2 flat tyres and had to abandon my truck.
So i ripped all the tubes out of my firestones and never had a flat tyre with them again, all in all was a $500 leason, which Im unsure what I learnt

the one thing I forgot to mention in earlier posts is that when ya buy new tahs, they generally have a wee sticker inside and if ya dont remove this sticker when fitting tubes, they rub on it and eventually get a pinhole and go down, so if fitting tubes make sure the tyre shops lads remove the stickers as some dont bother or are unaware of the damage that wee sticker can cause
as a side note, thanks to Rob at Naenae Tyre Court for letting me use his machines the other day.
I stripped all my tahs off the mags and removed excessive amounts of dirt from the beads and re-fitted and balanced them, so no more slow leaks for me
