Hi Skid.

I hope you are taking all the pistons out.

You could still have some others just slightly bent but not obvious to the eye.

I would hate you to put it in to find a knock or something out of balance later and have to go through the same exercise again

Just my 2cents worth and it sounds like you are lucky

All the best Richard

x2 to that bro

pull the lot, its not much extra work to pull them all and get the measured up to make sure, also can ballance them all as well so that when you have it singing its as smooth as silk

and you may as well do the rings while your there to top the compression back up and seeing as the heads off you can give that a bit of a port flow treatment...then when you take it for its first good run you can come visit me and ill give it a little tweake for you 8)

Yep but I think they all failed at around 100k and Skids speedo stopped at 300k so they have probably already been done

might be worth bunging some new ones in (yeah I know cost is a concern) seeing as how they will be out anyway when he removes the other pistons.

you would be silly to not replace the big ends while your there, you have them out anyway and its only 70 buks for a set and worth doing

Most of that will be mark up from the NZ dealer. It gets out of hand with anything above 10k cost.

Hows the rest of the Motor strip coming along Skiddy and was there any further damage?, and how are you looking for the replacement thingy that you needed?, do we need to drag a welder over when we put the motor back in to fix the chassis crack?

My advice is don't get to caught up on the "long run".

People always say " do this and do that while it's apart etc etc"

The best thing you can do when your in your sort of situation, is that unless someone is going to donate you the parts you need all you should be looking at is:

1. Replacing the damaged components with the cheapest second hand parts you can lay your hands on

2. Buying the gasket kit you need.

3. Buying a new set of big end bearings as they are cheap, and apart already.

It would be nice to do the ring's also, but they are spendy, and you need to do a bottle brush hone as a minimum.

Don't rebuild the motor, it's just not worth it, the truck could get written off a week after its back on the road, it could get nicked, anything.

Bung it back together the cheapest way possible and get out there driving it.

You might need the $$ for the electronic shit thats gone bung

You haven't said what bits you actually need Skid.

Ring Nigel at just Cruisers in Chch (0800 310 088), tell him you are the guy in wellington that Westie spoke to him about, and see what he can do for you.

As DB said, there is no need to go mental when you don't have the dough to do it and when it's all said and done, it is only a car and if you don't need to get into financial shiat to fix it, then don't.
