Marrying Runva 24v winch motor to Warn 8000lb winch

Post by albundy »

Bought one of those 10,000lb chinese winchs about 5 months ago, in that time I have blown two of them :x . The output gears keep letting go :x . Were warn 8000lb are winching safaris, this was shitting itself :x . Sat in the shed looking at it all, and the old warn when I realised  the splines of each motor were the same. All I had to do was get the seized joiner off :? . Bit of heat and cold water a couple of times and off it came. I had to shim up the warn casing with steel plate to make it all square when fitting to bullbar as the runva one was bigger by about 6mm  . Got it all square, fitted the fairlead and wound on the cable. Headed up Worsley's spur this afternoon to test it all under load. I was very impressed with what I had put together from three differnet winches :D :D . As the motor is bigger in hp it is somewhat faster then the old warn one :D :D . I feel now I can have peace of mind omewhat in the Reefton Challenge, knowing the gearinbg at least in the winch is a reputable brand  . Buyer beware!

Thats good to know. Do you think the reverse would hold true as well? A warn motor fitting on a Runva winch?

Can't see why not, you would just have to shim the casing.

That's what mine did, the planetry gears let go, the casings are only riveted together and the steel is very soft quality. I just hope the motors are better quality then the gearing.
