hate to say it dude

but maybe something was being done wrong

I have a 9 metre snatch strap from supercheap and its still going fine. Have used it between my 80 series landcruiser and a safari and both are heavy vehicles and the cruiser was stuck really good

I would take it back and ask for another or your money back (its worth a shot)

where did it break, coz it shouldnt break on the 3rd attempt

but as the guys above have said, you either support the vendors off the site or go see the guys in the 4wd shops in chch and learn from them as they have the experience

I have always used ropes for the past 6 yaers and not had one brake but have seen the snatch strops broke and one of them was straight out of the bag and it was arb gear. Ropes can be made to what you wont at cooks in chch.

Whats more important is what you buy rather than where you buy it, mountain climbers hate buying cheap and nasty ropes that break and we should be the same, I've been buying cookes snatchmaster straps for just over 10 years and other than a recent batch a couple of years ago that the stitching let go on the first couple of pulls they have all lasted well past their use by date before finely letting go (8+ years)

I bought a snatch master 6 metre from 4wdbits.co.nz and on the first pull its let go, when I rang them i was basically told it happens. So if anyone knows where I can buy a better one please let me know

The problem with snatch straps and ropes is that most people go hell for leather on the first go rather then giving a gentle but firm tug (excuse the pun) on the first go and seeing what happens. Plus most leave too much slack in the rope/strap and wonder why it breaks.

Have to agree with Al here. You need to know how to use a snatch strop properly.
As with ropes, do not snatch a vehicle with one unless it is a specially designed snatch rope, you wil damage a vehicle with the forces very easily.

Perhaps it is time we looked at organising another training day?
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

I have met lots of young climbers that use cheap ropes, no old ones though........

You will never regret buying quality, well maybe when you have to fork out for it you will but never later on. The piece of mind of having good equipment is well worth it.

Believe me, I know. Everytime I go for something cheap I regret it, last time, I ended up pissing razar blades, had to give up drinking for a month while I took penocillian and I had to try and convince the wife that she must have caught a STD from a public toilet seat. None of it was very pleasent.

yea +1 for cookes/snatch master ones. i have seen them break but the ones i have seen break have either been very worn or have been from a snatch so big that if the strap didnt brake the hook would have. snatches like that shouldnt be required, use of a winch or pulling the truck out backwards and taking a new path or getting the spade out are all other options.

Last one i saw break was an 80 series trying to pull out a hilux (hard up against a hidden bank) the strap broke and hit the tail gate of the 80, the 80 now looks like someones taken to it with a sledge hammer over and over. Regardless how strong your recovery points are it pays to be very careful when snatching and avoid really hard snatches if at all possible.
