When you fit the Turbo just remember that a BB turbo should have a restricter in the oil feed ,They wont cope with the full oil pressure ..Cheers
Re: whats the "ideal" turbo for the safari.
After a few months of gathering up all the bits i have just spent the last week getting my TD42 twin turbo project up and running.
I have put up a bit of a description and a few photos.
My camera has died mid build but i will get some more pictures up of the finished product over the next few days.
I have started up a page under the "Builds" section at the top of the page. It's all on there.
Enjoy

Hi Guys,
I have got my truck back from having the pump mods done.
It is seriously hauling now.
I have updated my build page with the mods etc.
Let me know your thoughts................

that is some nice work especially love the tig welding, wish i was that good, i want to see what can be achieved with a replacement intake manifold as the stock one after 18psi or so starts to restrict it a bit i have been told, just by looking at it most the flow will be heading to the middle 2 cylinders.

Nice setup. One question, how much 4wheeling do you do. I only ask as you don't seem to be running a snorkel and where you have mounted the intercooler would fill with mud in no time and get punctured. I do like the twin turbo set up though.

Cheers guys,
Just to answer your questions:
Gary-I would love to build a custom intake manifold to see what power gains would be available.
I know some of the results Mike at Sinco has got on petrol engines are really good with his custom intakes.
Unfortunatly i had to draw the line somewhere with the cost.
Origionally i was thinking of two smaller intercoolers and two seperate 3 cylinder intake manifolds.
AlBundy-I never take this off road,Its just my daily driver and used for towing a 2000kg boat.
This is why i can get away with my air filter and intercooler setup.
However since using this site it has definatly sowen a seed in me somewhere that would love to give the offroading a try some day.Just not in this truck.

I liked ya write up, the twin turbo thing is of interest. Looking at turboing my pig next year some time. Going thru all the research then found this, certainly a different perspective.

FYI,
Going to a 13mm plunger and rotor in the future would be a waste of time. 12mm would give you all the fuel you'd ever be able to use, and even then you'd need to do alot of work to free up the intake system.

We have just done an inlet that is a front entry phlenum style. It has a front mount IC so makes for easy plumbimg. I can't should photo's as the owner is shy
but those at Manukau will be able to see it first hand if the bonnet is lifted that is!

Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.

I should also add if you want to keep it road legal then you have to vent the wastegate back to the exhaust ,its sounds bloody great venting it to the atmosphere but would exceed exaust noise regs
hi old thread i know but found it while doing a search. Would be keen to know a bit more info about your turbo setup. have just fitted a standard 25t skyline turbo to my 4.2 nissan, but found it is not suited as it seems to come on boost very fast but runs out of puff very early aswell, almost like it is too small. Would you be able to give me a bit more info as to what has been modified inside your turbo? still deciding weather i should buy a different turbocharger altogether, or get my current one modified.

Re: whats the "ideal" turbo for the safari.
what size turbo you using? is it the t25 or t28/ Ideally it should be the t28. With a .60 or a .64 hot side.
Just as aside i put a td05 with a 16g wheel on my old shorty and it would reach full boost at 1800rpm(1bar) and hold it nicely all the way to 5200rpm

Re: whats the "ideal" turbo for the safari.
How much power do you want? What do you used the truck for?
5L+GT35@21psi= 223RWHP
5L+GT35@30+psi= 287RWHP....
Great tow Vehicle!

Re: whats the "ideal" turbo for the safari.
nah thats way to big. You'd need some serious work done to get it to spool up.
even a tdo5 20g is on the large side.
If you want good useable everyday power tdo5 16g small with std pump and 16g big or maybe a 18g with a modded pump.
I was spinning up 33s in 1st 2nd and in the wet 3rd with my old truck. which ran a std tdo5 at 1bar
