picked up rear shocks today and fitted them tonite, all thats left now is to get longer brake lines fitted and to put the new wheels and tyres on and im in business. . any ideas on the easiest and best ways to stop some bastard stealing it off me front lawn as it wont fit in the garage now. (i live in south auckland ) alarm , immobiliser and locknuts should do it i guess. well atleast discourage a few .

put some of those maori plate surrounds on it

ngati tuwharetoa or similar

then they will think its one of the bros and leave it alone

hey any one know what shocks i can run in the front other than shelling out for a set of long travel ones from efs or the like? have vn commie rears in the front at the moment, they have good extension but they bottom out to quickly .

has anyone tried putting new seatbelts in the back of the older model surfs? want to try and put the over your shoulder kind to replace the lap belts that they have to make it a bit safer and more comfortable for my young fella.

oh yea, forgot to tell ya, my other truck has over the shoulder belts in the back... and since its a 2 door surf like our old 1s it shouldnt be too hard to find a set out of the same model as my shiney and fit em to yours... i guess that way ya can use mine as a reference to how and where they been fitted

Any chance you can post up a pic of your belts? I was told you could only have lap belts in the rear because of the fiberglass top.

i was refering to my 130 2 door, they have them. and could maybe refer to that as to how and where they are positioned...
but yea i guess its not as easy as that... why does the f/g roof make a difference??? end a the day theres still a back seat and you would think an over the shoulder type would be beter and safer??? ltsa have some strange rules

In a crash the fiberglass has no structural strength so the top mount becomes useless and provides no support for the seatbelt, so the belt isn't going to hold an occupant in. We looked at floor mounting 4 point belts.
For the kids we went to a over shoulder restraint that bolted to the floor and picked up the lap belt.

yea i was thinking of mounting something to the back floor for that reason of the fibre glass rear. do you have any pics you could put up of what you did?

No pics but if you lift the carpet there should be two captive nuts under round black stickers, about 30-40cm away from the back of the rear seats. We purchased the child restraint from a seat belt supplier.
Used one of these for the littlies.

thanks for the tip smurf picked 1 up from trademe for 40 bucks and the young fulla is much safer
another question: on steep descents my front tyres smack and bend the bottom rear of the front guards. have 50mm lift and 33s. is a body lift the best way to remedy this, are steering mods needed and is the cert for it hard to get? thanks

hey mate,most people running 33s use 2" sus lift and 2"body,pretty much completly clears it but you will still get a lil rubbing,certs arnt hard to get if you do all the mods and build your truck correctly,im pretty sure your in auck somewhere ae?iv chated with ya brother a bit,best guy for you to go see would be mark stokes,can highly recommend him,in saying that hes seen and likes my work ,steering component wise all youll need is a joint spacer or a longer shaft,which can be froma non powersteering surf / hilux or theres a prado i think it is that has a slip joint so it just opens to correct length,hope that helps

oh manukau,im just in weymouth ae ,yeh mark stokes as in MS Certification,his mobs 0274522276,he is a bloody hard guy to get hold of but it is simply because of his vast knowledge and experience so every one wants to use him,thing with cert tho is its gona cost you about 4-500 so you really want to do all the major mods together and get one cert,are you pretty happy with ya vechile as is and not really planning any majors in the near future?if you are you may be best to hold off,if ya want throw me a text 02102789016,ill be at my brother n laws all sunday ,just round the corner from mine, and if ya wanted to stop by and have a yak ya more than welcome to,could have a look at ya truck and posibly give ya some advice or guidence of mods you want to do n stuff like that,ive got a pretty good understanding of the cert book and being an engineer helps ae,can show you what and how ive done things to my truck cert wise aswell

took her for a wof and they wanted a cert for 50mm sus lift. i told them i dont need 1 and they had to look it up. so only failed on play in front wheel bearings and rear brakes not working evenly, probably full of woodhill clay then the body lift will go in

hey guys, any one know of some seats that will fit my surf without too much drama. the factory seats are so uncomfortable on long and hard drives and they kill my bung back.
