prado speakers

Post by Heath »

Anyone know what the speaker size for prados (96) swb is? Both doors and the rear panels please. :?:

Been offered some for a reasonable price, but if they are an odd size then they wont fit.

Are they 5 inch, 6 inch or 6.5 inch? Buggered if I know how to measure them as I just had a quick look under the door panel (didnt remove it just peeked under one side).

Might just have to remove them and take them to a shop for comparison.

Thanks. :?

If i was you i would remove them .. it wouldnt hurt to have a look at the magnet size, and also see how much space you have for the new speakers and there magnets so you can make sure they will fit

Its the depth you might have an issue with.

Ripped a front and rear one out and will replace with the same dimensions to save hassles.

Okay got some nice 6.5's for free from the old man (cheers Dad) and what do you know even they dont fit. :?

Did some more online digging and it appears old mr toyota in a rush of shit to the brain they had speakers made to their own dimensions so aftermarket speakers that simply swap in are not avaliable cheaply (if at all).

What is it with the Toyota brand? Are they trying to make things hard or what?

So now it appears that I will have to mod the mounts and figure out another option or two.

It's never easy is it? :?

i got these pods from a car stereo company that allow you to fit 6.5s with deep magnets and they dont look like shit either, another way is mdf spacers that you trim in automotive material. imo get the experts to do it while you drink beer

Found some sony speakers that may just do the trick, they are over sized too. 166mm as opposed to 155mm across. so they will just fit.

One set will be mounted on board (or the old speaker mounting ring, got to see if it is possible yet).

I figure the big new ones for the rear and the smaller old ones for the front. If I dont like the sound, I will just swap them round.

run the new ones in the front if you can dude. get the good sound and bass from the front. its not like you go to a concert and stand with your back to the band. rears are for back fill in for passengers only imo :D . always try for the best quality in the front

Sweet, I may just do that. Just got to talk to the budget advisor about some new speakers. we need to do a few longish trips without sound so she thinks it is a good idea too I think.

it looks like speakers with the sextended tabs out the sides would fit. I just got a small curring disk in my dremel and put small slits in the new securing ring (around the edge) and then put a washer into the slot with a screw through that to the fastening points.

Works a treat and will do until I can get some good speakers. Like the sony ones (xsgtx???? something or others) at the moment but might have a seak around the stereo shops while the missus is working tomorrow.
