I should add that when we looked at it from both methods, the class results could change quite a bit and reward consistent placing.

I read Dave's reply as being there are 3 sets of results

1, Individual - competed by all vehicles
2, Club Class
3, Challenge Class

ie results for 2 and 3 are extrapolated from the individual results and massaged back to 100 points per class per track

Computers have other use's than just for stiring shit on the internet right????

Excel will do the scoring calculations for you and much more.

You have the competitors names and numbers already, and the stage numbers.

Set your work sheet up before hand with the relevant calc's and slap the stage times in as they come back from the Marshal's.

Simple instant results.

No one has to count or work anything out twice that way.

The only potential human error involved is correctly entering the times.

In that case there can not be an overall first place, only class placings.
ie if the same truck in each class comes first on each stage they would have the same points (100 each no penalties). But if there was points for first reguardless of class then one would get 100 and the other wouldn't so an overall could be awarded.



There isn't a right or wrong way of doing it, it just depends on whether you want to award an overall winner or just class winners.

Why do we need a overall winner?
The event is meant to have two classes.
E.g. a winner for each class.

Thats what the competiors want.


If competions start scoring all the vechicle from the same stage points - There is no point in having two classes anymore, and it will kill off whats left of the challenge class trucks.

Who cares about points........

I just want to be able to compete. Went to put the zuk on the trailer and it wouldn't rev past about 2000rpm. Check the conections under the bonnet which had been freshly diolectric greased, no joy. (ran sweet last week)

Check fault codes and AFM shows as problem. Diagnosis check on that comfirms its dead.

Have a line on a couple but at this stage I'm packed and ready with a truck that I had to winch onto the trailer.

Any way we'll be there even if I have to drive all over Auckland on the down and swap it out at scuriteenering.

Hmm as for points

I'm with madaz, while it does make for an interesting comparison 2 classes that will at some point soon have slightly different spec rules (maybe we wont go there) it should also be scored as 2 classes, especially when you consider how detrimental one poor stage for a top truck could be if scored overall.

Having it one way or another is no big deal and doesn't even need to be decided upon until race day. The only diference is how the scores are recorded. It doesn't change times etc just the results. It really isn't a big deal and as I'm the only person (and my team who runs the Whangarei comp) who has even dealt with it before, Im just trying to point out there is no problem either way. But there are some thing you need to consider. The only time a competitors would even know is at prize giving.

Alot of motorsports have different classes racing at the same time and award an overall winner and class winners. What we do is up to us and I'm not going to tell people what decision they should make.

As President of 4x4 Challenges it is my job to make happen what the members want, not to make decisions for them
I'd rather be racing but as business is tough I can't afford to. Like quite a few other challenge class guys I own my own business and it has been a tough year. Next year will be a different story.

The results from Rotorua have now been added and there is only 24 point seperating the top 6 trucks in Challenge class and 22 point seperating the top 5 in club class. results are on the 4x4 challenges forum.

Challenge class results

Over all results

Having class results and over all results is pretty standard for all forms of motor sport.

For me personally, whats far more interesting are the stage times. Seeing how mine compare to everyone elses.

just got back from having a looksy at the winch challenge. as it was the first one i have been too i was well impressed. great to see what these trucks are capable of. there were a couple of roll overs i heard of. i only got to see the bottom stage at the carpark as i had my family with me and they wernt as keen to hike up to the other stages. it doesnt help when one of them is an over tired 4yr old it was real wet and muddy as which made it very challenging for alot of them. who knew a farm creek could be such fun
