give you a sausage roll for it!!!

but seriously, just tuck it away for a bit till you kindle the interest again, then, if not gettin any interest gathered after a while, sell... a smart man knows when to walk away.. persistance is a good thing, but not always the correct way to go..

i reckon a lot of that is pretty easy to sort, just time consuming.. stick at it guy.. even throw a few beers on for a few like minded wheelers in your local community and have a bbq and couple of quiets style working bee on her.. you'd be surprised where you'd get.

where abouts are ya?

and good luck man.. it sounds like it'll be a good rig when sorted..

Agree with Yeti. Advertise a few beers for people with some knowledge to head around, have a look and talk crap. Might be worth a try.

Get it back from where ever it is and shove it in the shed for a month or two and take a break from the stress and shit then re-concider your options

Bad luck, there have been a couple of truck's down here that went the same way, the guy got the truck back did his own asking around and took it to different people and managed the project himself rather than just pay one place to do it all he took it to the right places. Both trucks are very well done now.

Every workshop has expertise in one area or another very few can put together the whole thing together themselves.

Sorry you learned the hard way but best to step back take a breath look at what needs done asap and who is the best to look at that issue.

Yes you do more running around but you get what you want at the end of the day. It is up to you but I would get the 4wd back have a serious look at it, write the list and put the list in the 4wd
in a shed. When you feel less pissed off read the list and start making calls or decide to sell it.
Legal disclaimer: Any information I may have provided is worth exactly what you paid me for it.

Like the others said, hang in there
alot of your problems sound like faulty workmanship
If you anything like me dont put it in a shed youl loose intrest and start hating it (if you dont allready) and it will never get finished

I say buy some tools and get some hands on experience
if you get stuck the boys on here will help you out

take a heap of photos off all the issues so we all know what your up against

good luck

its 1.30am and I've been on the bourbans all night

now please don't take this the wrong way............

it may only be my observation, or others may have put the words in my mouth

you're a good guy crizpy, but I've hardly seen the truck out on trips etc etc

now this could be due to the fact that its tied up getting mods, but in my opinion you threw a shite load of money at it before you drove it

my views on novice 4wders are that you should drive the wheels off it and learn about it a little bit before throwing ya chequebook at it and chucking in a V8 etc etc etc

I'm not picking on ya, just pointing out a few observations

please don't think anything less of me, as its been a long night on the turps and I probably should not be posting this stuff

don't run away, just take a break and then asses it some more

ask around and see if any of the welly boys have skills you could use to get it going

hey bud sorry to hear about your on going issues etc.. ( the few i didnt know about that is ) ive met you only the once but enough time there to realise you were a good bloke ..

personally i cant help all that much .... but what i can do i will for a fellow 4wd'r that needs help

you have my number and well .. im sure there are alot of other guys that can maybe pitch in here and give you a hand wherever you need ...

i can help with time ... that i have plenty of ! and possibly if i sweet talk my old man we could use his hoist and workshop ...

i do however know you feeling kinda ...
i only have the one vehicle my 70 pos
and since ive owned it ive had the wheels stolen along with my jack etc ... 3 engines now about to fit the 3rd .. a fire which destroyed the wiring behind the dash resulting in still no heater ...
and basically im just expecting more to go wrong ... but thats the joys of a older 4wd .. things shite themselves and need to be fixed or replaced and more often than not will happen right when you plan to use it or go away or something ...

keep you chin up bud these things happen to all of us at times .. again im here if you need anything done some possibly some kind of help

Crizpy, sort out a BBQ and we'll come round and give you a hand... just make a list of everything that needs doing to it...

Nothing is really what you budget fot it as there are unexpected costs, if your wiring loom is dodgu maybe look around for a cheap one to replace it.....my one is f..ked ie mostly ,elted and I'm replacing it with a new one (with the new body).

Starters and alternators are an ongoing hazard of offroading.....they will die at some point.

with the grief you are having it sounds more like a small claims case to me, the mechanic quoted a price for a certed vehicle, you do not have that, batteries alt etc die, link computers are fairly rugged, if it is burning tracks out on the board then there is something very wrong in the hook up, and pulling excessive amps thru the computer, head gaskets do die, bearing rattle is not a good sign,

put it in the shed and sit down a document all correspondance and quote etc with the installer, and go wind them up about it, and see what they will do to get it to a certified stage

sounds like, new exhaust so it don't set fire to the carpet, the vibration is probably the exhaust touching the body, and a electrical over haul.

I agree with Pedro, I would be going to small claims and trying to get the money back off the mechanic that did it.Only snag can be the time it takes for them to pay it back. The guy that stung me finished paying a few months ago ($40 a week for almost 3 years)

I would have expected you to pay 8-12k for a drive in, drive out V8 conversion.

opinions and views are good , and I see where you are coming from , And agree If i didnt do a conversion I would Likely still be out there .
In regards to mods , I bought the truck already well set up with the lockers , snorkel , barwork , lift , shocks ect .
I changed to 35" tyres and beadlock rims when tread started getting down and was happy with the truck and its peformance and had it like this for over a year ect. But I saw this one come up and saw It to be a rare find and not likely to come Up again, Everything there for a conversion ..
motor / link / marks adaptor kit
and i recoverd Most of the value I purchased it for by selling its tyres , winch , snorkel ect .
ragards to throwing cheque book
I always try think outside the square mostly only been on this conversion and trying to get the thing running.

no offence taken at all :)

dont give up on the 70 dude, when i rolled mine and got the new one with blown motor and had to swap motor and axels, steering etc i had times where i thought id can it,but ya just have to have a bit of a break then go back and say ive got the shocks the lift, winch, barwork and i can do this slowly,i know how it feels to keep finding more and more things wrong with it,it sucks :!: but im enjoying it now and have been over the last few weeks more than ever, now ive got powersteer to fix tho :x

its one of those things where youve put in to much to pull out and once it is done never sell it

hang in there bud
on my 3rd POS 70 cruiser still havent learnt

thanks for all the replys and ideas....
If there is some intrest on a working bee to help me get things sorted and change motor I'd be very greatful for the help and will supply beers sausages ect ...

please note I had a bad day yesterday and was also trying to get some things done on The landcruiser and when I wrote the post i was a bit fired up ..

Not all these issues are related to the mechanics work and i dont want to at all put a bad word out there for the workshop ,
great bunch of people , fast service , and i am on good terms with them and people associated with them.
I may just raise a couple of concerns on wiring issues and link repair...
but would still use their services in the future

I think i will Keep at It a bit longer , try and use some help around me , and get it back up to a useable standard

no but a fair few are, the exhaust, if they fitted it should not set fire to the carpet, if the gearbox is leaking, where is it from, is it a area they pulled apart to adapt to the engine?, bearings running in motor well shit happens, the computer should not burn out at all, the hooking to one battery is a tad dodgy, this could cause the alt to either over or under charge batteries, killing them, they need to fulful the contract and get it certed, you should be able to get a certifier to have a look at the mechanics of the setup and get him to say ya or nah, oil leaks etc can be fixed, but the mechanics work should be able to be certed

Cheers

From what i'm told it wasnt a drive in drive out conversion..... the mechanics just helped put the motor in, also the donor trucks loom was used at your request which was in a bit of a mess apparantly as well as the doner V8 had been revving its nuts off on its side with a hole in the oil filter which you were aware of apparantly. The Link is connected to a mixed 12 & 24v system which doesnt help.

I would be throwing away your existing loom and starting fresh with another one and converting everything to 12v, Doing things on the cheap helps but take the time and do it properly. Get the important parts of the electrics done professionally.
