Hey... sorry 'bout that. I'm about to try the surf master (1" bore) with 60 series booster this weekend. Had tried the surf master with 60 series booster the other week, but without the proportional valve and it was never going to work without some form of brake biased valve to the rear. Let me know how you get on
Replacement 70 series pitman arm arrived in the mail today... $30 off TM plus postage. Looks heaps stronger that the older 60 series one! Hoping the tie ball joints are the same size/taper as the 60 series ones.
Tried the surf master cylinder (1 inch bore) and 60 series brake booster (and proportional valve) tonight... much firmer pedal but really have to stand on the pedal to get it to come to a quick stop. Felt like a reasonably balance braking without the rear locking up... Had a chat with one of the guys down at G Guy last week and mentioned what I'd run into and so will book it on for them to have a look at and give me another opinion.

Interesting... I was thinking while driving it tonight that the current set up felt like the 40 series master and booster (with residual pressure valve removed from front part). Throw in an after market proportional valve to stop the rear from locking up early - and that's what you've possibly got... could have save me some $$ by the sounds of things!
Fakey wrote:Cheers, im doing a full floater conversion labour weekend so will be goin to discs on the rear as well just gettin the bits together now
So how are you going to mount the rear caliper? Making up an adapter plate or going for a kit of some sorts? Also what caliper/disc combination are you planning on using?
Most likely hilux discs with leone calipers with custom mounting brackets, just been trying to sort out the braking side of the conversion out today. Sig told me that there is a engineering crowd in the hutt that howats get to lazer cut the brackets specifically for this set up but there have been a few kits all ready to go on trademe of late. Ive got a fair bit of work to get the diff up an running (making new spring perches, setting up the locker with the original gears etc) so the brakes might have to wait till i get all the bits if i dont have them by the weekend
Hey safaripete... thanks for the photos... spied a wilwood prop valve on TM (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =248106246)... Did you set up the rear discs yourself? If so do you know what combination of parts have you used and is your setup all cert'd?

nah i didnt do the setup
but it is decleraed as having hilux disks unsure of the calipers but they are big and have sumutomo stamped on them
if ur ever close to palmy ur quite welcome to come for a nosey

cheers - might pull a few bit off the rear over the long weekend and see if I can make something work. How did you get on with the replacement diff head? (think I read a post last week)

yeah seeing sig on thursday evening my damage pics are on the weekend achevements thread lol
Mid 80's Leone front callipers with handbrake levers on them have been a popular conversion, theres usually a few Leones being wrecked on TM to find the callipers, Howie can do the calliper brackets

i got some caliper mounts for full floater diffs. some spare too somewhere.. leonie calipers,,
Looks like a nice setup. With the Leonie calipers - my handbrake is on the transfer case - can you still run these calipers without using the handbrake setup or are there other ones to use instead (if you know) and what disc do you use with this combo? I'll so some Google searching tonight. What's the price on the mounts?

Do those pads get 100% coverage on the disc there nibs? Not that it's an issue if you're not going to Cert it.
What exactly does 100% coverage mean? Is it to do with where the caliper/pad is in relation to the disc or alignment with disc? I'll be wanting to get mine cert'd so I'll need to be aware of this.

Nibs isn't getting his Cert so it's not an issue for his beast.
The reason I went for MR2 (non turbo) rear discs n hand brake assembly was, for the fact that the MR2 disc pad gets 100% contact to the 70 Series rear rotors. This is the only way you'll get a cert for the rear brakes. I mean to say. If it doesn't get 100% contact, no cert. The Subaru pads didn't get 100% contact. But that's just the experience I've had. Tim (hosehusler) went for the same setup after he helped install the set on my truck.
Hmm just did the full floater conversion on my 40 with the diff locker (cheers niblik), All was well till i went to bolt on my caliper brackets and found they dont fit. My diff has a flange on it with 8 bolt holes almost like a semi floater, i see in all the above pics they only have 4 bolt holes. (The ones that used to hold the drum on)

Any one know what this diff is out of. Bought it off sig an he thought it was a 40 series but now that i look at it it doesnt look the same??
Not sure but this article (which is US based I think mentions something about "pre-79' full floater rear axle from Australia") - http://www.employees.org/~dirttrak/rear ... ersion.htm. This is what I was going to base mine on but I'm now thinking I may need to check my rear diff as I think mine was from a early 80's cruiser... didn't realise there was a different bolt configuration.
... nice work, just had a look at the photos... put's my welds/bodywork to shame! Thought you had a minter but they all seem to have the same rust once you start poking around best not to look sometimes!
Haha yeah it looked pretty mint till i started picking at the bog then i just couldnt help myself. Sometimes I wish Id just left it alone an just used it tho

Cheers Thats the same diff as what ive got, looks like ill be making my own caliper brackets
Anyone wanna buy some nice lazer cut leone caliper brackets an maybe the calipers
