Mild 4wder needs suspension fix/upgrade.

Post by New2this »

I need new suspension but I'm not that hard out off road and although I've found heaps of info on 50mm lifts etc I've also seen people say don't lift any higher than you need to, and I dont think I need a 50mm lift... or do it? Firstly, just about little bit about my situation then a couple questions.

I've got a leaf sprung lux with the front saggin so hard the bump stops are only about an inch from the springs. All the bushings are worn dry and cracked and everything has been on the truck for 260000kms plus.
Shocks front and read might as well just be solid metal bars and the steering damper is completely shot cause I used it to kill a pig the other night on the way out of the bush. opps
I run 31in by about 9.5in dessert duelers which do the job most of the time but I will get the same size but in an MT next set. Clearance for the tires is no big a deal with the suspension I've got now, this might be because what I've got doesn't move or flex much at all.

SO I've ordered a new EFS Steering damper but thats about as far as I've gotten because I don't really think I need a lift, or if I do, do I need a 50mm lift?
The trucks only got a 3Y and isn't going to win any awards for power so is never going to be running 33s or anything.
We use it to go camping and running around in the bush hunting, in paddocks getting to rock fishing spots etc nothing too major but some pretty horrid gravel roads.

Any info would be appreciated.

ps I've been looking at an all round EFS set up, new springs, shocks/steering damper, bushes, shackles, pins, u bolts, drag link, 1degree wedge, and I think a diff locator arm..? Again thats in a 50mm lift but do you reckon I need it?

repco do 'maxitrac' my brother got a full set front and rear plus shackles and bushes for about $400, negotiate with repco cause they do drop the price, you might find even buying standard height new springs will raise your truck from what it is now cause its so sagged

yea got just the springs for $500 then a hundy or so for the shackles and bushes. then they did me shocks for $200 a pair. mine was way sagged to so after putting the 50mm lift in it actually lifted it about 80 to 100mm
