Nissan Safari Seat Upgrade ?

Post by corosafari »

Hi
Any advise on options for seat upgrade. Standard seats I have are in good condition but looking for something with more lumbar and side support for long trips and windy tarseal roads round home. Looking to do this with no major modification to avoid wof and certification issues, maybe nissan skyline etc. Mine is 97 gq lwb. Any advise or recomendation of who can help will be much appreciated.

Thanks vince
Do you know what year GT4 was, did they bolt straight on safari rails, was height and position similar. Mine is 12volt twin battery set up which makes setting up access straight forward, not common apparantley
cheers

If GT4 seats are an easy fit i'd be very verrrrry happy. These seats are killing my back.

bah.

Couldnt wait. Just bought a pair of r32 gtst front seats off trademe for just $50 (delivered!) with rails etc and not ripped. I'm hoping i can use the skyline rails on the safari base pieces as ive broken a safari rail.

Do you mean GT4 celica seats in yours?

I'll post pics once ive got these assembled in and hopefully help someone else.

Awsome nathan, hope they work out
Im stuck at sea at the moment so cant do much for a couple of weeks anyhow, but will be keen to keep an eye on your progress. Im a bit reluctant to do anything without physically checking seats out for height as I dont have much clearance to spare but will purchase if I know they will be same height as originals
well done

If anything it looks like i'll gain head hight as the base of the seat looks very very thin on the skyline seats.

ugly but should do it 8)

Right.

So that was an easy ####### waste of 50$

The nissan safari seat bases are bullshit.

the skyline seats are far better and would probably be fairly simple to fit into any other car.

The issue is that the safari's seat rails are at totally different heights- and then where the spacers/rails mount to the seats themselfs are at totally different hights... and its all just such a POS.

Be interested to see pics of how that guy up there fitted the gt4 seats!!

Yeah I've heard that too. Gonna go check out another safari in the next week or so that has wrx seats. I was told there is a bit of dicking around to make em suit the rails correctly but wrx seats are cheap so will have a go. Will try get some pics of this other trucks seat setup if people want em.

I really like this idea- they are much nicer than 300zx seats thats for sure.

I've hopefully got a set of WRX seats coming soon so will take pics as these are installed.

cant remember if i said this but the skyline seats were a complete fail.

Yeah Ive have got WRX seats in my truck and they have made a big difference. Used the Safari rails but because the WRX seats are wider in the base I had to make up a plate to adjust for width and one side being 10mm lower. Easy fix though and they fit in the space perfectly. Had been looking for Celica GT4 or Z300 seats like Vince but everything was miles away so I grabbed these guys for $ 26 just to try. Will try to post some pics up later

I used the safari base and runners but because the WRX Seats are wider in the base I made a couple of steel straps to tie them together with 10mm packers on one side.
The side bolsters wouldn't want to be any higher for getting in and out, but once in, - you're in heaven. For $26 the pair I thought it was worth a try.

This guy on trademe has some GT4 seats. He originally had a buy now of $30 I was going to get them but he wants them picked up - not freighted

Anyone tried skyline gtst seats? I find them quite supporting. Looking for one to borrow to see if much needs doing to fit, or if I can find a cheap one.

May not have been exactly the same year etc that you are thinking of- but they were not able to be fitted.
