Wanted: Hilux Steering Ujoint

Post by nstacey »

Hi,
I'm after a steering ujoint for my 1985 LN65 hilux, its the one that goes into the steering box.

I've been to a few wreckers but had no luck, compared it to a 94ish surf and the ujoint itself on a surf is about half the size. and about 20mm shorter in length. Is using a surf one viable?

Bump, anyone got one, got one from Turoas spares bin, it was rusty as, cleaned it all up and put back together with a brand new ujoint only to have it crack in exactly the same place as the last one. Toyota no longer make the part. Any suggestions? As above, any reason why I couldn't use a surf one?

Have a chat with jafa, he may have the conversion bits that you need http://www.snr4x4.co.nz/steering-c-23_2 ... 01cf87a9e3

This piece goes on the end of the steering shaft into the steering box and isn't changed as far as I know in a crossover conversion. Whilst I might consider crossover steering later I just want to get the thing mobile again. The Surfs have the same piece only the Ujoint itself is about half the size (in diameter). Anyone know any reason why I couldn't just use a surf one (I assume spline count is the same)?

If you had a look on www.toyodiy.com You can have a look at different models of hilux/surf to see if they are the same. wouldn't have thought you would want one shorter though?
