hilux rear diff what ratio?

hi my mate has a hilux with a solid axle rear diff its a 1988 hilux surf does anyone no what ratio the diffs are in this truck?

check out the body tag and note down the axles codes and post them up here and guaranteed that within 5 mins you will have your answer

my bet is either 4.3 or 4.8
80 Series on 35" creepies, manual with twin factory lockers.

It is most likely a 4.55 ratio if it is a diesel. 9 teeth on the pinion an 41 on the crown but it could well have been changed to a 4.8 if the person was running bigger tyres.

If it is a 2.2 petrol std was 4.8 ratio

hi thanks guys, if i have a 4.8 ratio diff in the back do i have to run a 4.8 in the front? i no this is proberly a stupid question as the wheels will possibly run at different speeds but thought id just confirm

It is most likely a 4.55 ratio . 9 teeth on the pinion an 41 on the crown but it could well have been changed to a 4.8 if the person was running bigger tyres.

solid axle rear, but independant front?? 2lt (2.4 d/t)engine? should be 4.3 some even came with lsd's. check that axle plate
and let us no. (will be something like g284)
I did read somewher that auto ones were meant to be 4.3 and manual ones 4.1 havent seen 4.1's though.
Although if you think they have been changed from factory the only way to find out if open them up

solid axle rear leaf sprung independent front and it is manual i think and its a 4.2 t/d but il try get the axle plate. and i dont think the hilux has ever been offroad as the timing belt snapped in the engien from day to day use. thanks

you will wear your transfer out if there different ratios. :)

i have told there is colour on the end of pinoin sharft take drive shaft end think no colour = 4.88 will try and get full list posted
