What parts to keep?

Post by motorhead »

Hello, I have a 90 lwb 2.5td manual. Parts truck is a 89 lwb 2.5 td auto.

Question is what parts to keep for spares? Injector pump, top end(reconded), how offen do you need to replace dented doors and fenders?

Wife says parts truck needs to go so time to strip it.

Cheers

Defiantly Keep .....

Head (if not cracked your looking at around a grands worth of spares alone)
Turbo
Injector Pump
injectors
spare (as in at least 2 sets) glow plugs ..your 2.5td will eat them like lollies

Diffs ... unless LSD dont bother to much .. they are pretty bullet proof and the 2.5TD barely has the grunt to spin the wheels let alone stress them much.. same as front cvs keep them but dont expect to have to change them much.. ive never heard of anyone breaking one

calipers and brake bits ... if you have rear disk brakes expect them to sieze lots if not kept spotlessly clean ... hand brake cables stretch on the rear disk brake models too

Doors etc are pretty strong and survive some pretty hard knocks .. rust gets them first.

windscreens are good

oh KEEP the windscreen winder regulator in the drivers door .. they are notorious for packing up (they fill with mud and shit and corrode) fuel tank sender die on them too so keep that as well (tank might not be such a bad idea to keep as well as small stones have been known to work there way between the smash plate and tank and get ramed through the tank next time it gets a decent snot.

CVs and shafts you want to keep if you are getting into off road , Alternator , Starter , Radiator. , Windscreen , Lights ( park , indicator and tail Lights)

that is what i would keep for starters..

Drive shafts if anygood,Comeplete Diffs, Brakes .
and pretty much what ever meece4x4 said as well

( sorry if i said the same parts )
